I got a call from Dish last week saying that my locals were now in HD. I checked right away, but so far I haven't seen any "HD" programming. It is all 4:3 and looks crappy. The Dish web site said they are on 61.5 which I don't have. I do see them in the higher channels (9000 something). I called and the told me that they were also carried on 110.

Do I have them or not?

I am in Richmond, VA.

TIA

You are not getting them. If they are one 61.5 you need that sat in order to get them, Dish will upgrade your dish for you. It is probably your sd local in the 9000 range and come from 110.

You are absolutely correct. I wasn't familiar with the channel numbers before since they are mapped down to the "local channel numbers". I guess the lady I spoke to the first time didn't know what she was talking about.

I called Dish again tonight. They asked for ~$60 and a 2 year commitment to install the 61.5. I said I thought it was a free upgrade. They put me on hold for a few minutes and came back with just the 2 year commitment or ~$60 with no commitment. I figured I was basically happy with Dish and agreed to the 2 year free install.

Only thing I'm not sure about is if I can get the 61.5 or not. I have a lot of trees around and my dish is on the ground. (pole)
