Locals connect or reconnect fee?

Apparently so and I may take them up on it if for nothing else than to check my RG6 connections outdoors. Here's how to beat the service cost using option #2:

1. Pay a one time fee of $95 for a service call,

or

2. Pay a $9.99/month maintenance fee for a minimum of 6 months, this according to a DISH tech who I hope is correct.
If you do the 6 months thing ask the CSR if the 6 months minimum fee requirement is for your state. When I looked in to this couple of months ago for my daughter down in the great state of Texas the 6 month minimum fee requirement did not apply. There are several other states too that it doesn't apply.

I don't think they charge a fee to add them, nor to drop them ....unless it is in the same 30 day period which it appears happened here. (Flex Pack aside) If that is the case that has been for quite sometime and certainly from when you first could add them or drop them. I was never "told" about it either, I look at my contact and online to what their policies are. I believe the Rep was incorrect I do not think they charged you for adding locals - again unless you added them in the same month from dropping them.

I wouldn't have trusted giving money to DISH for buying anything either in the 80's they had nothing to sell.......:)
 
The 6 months for the protection plan is not because of a state law anywhere. It is there because it is generally offering free or discounted tech from $95, and if there was not a time period, people would add it one month and cancel. Dish has to make some of the money for a tech somewhere.

I understand why six month period is there. What I am saying is that some states have laws that says DISH cannot demand the six month time period if you don't want it. You can quit a month later not the mandatory six months later. Maybe I didn't understand the CSR correctly, so ask them about your state if you need to add the protection. Maybe your state doesn't allow the DISH mandatory six month period. I may be wrong on this so ask. It is what a CSR told me several months ago.

Why do people complain about fees if those fees are the policy of the company that institutes them?

If a consumer considers a fee to be unreasonable because it is imposed for something they think should not have a fee or because they view it as excessive they will complain. It is unlikely that the fact that the fee is standard will stop them from complaining. In fact it might make them compalin more.
 
I am going to challenge this. Please post a state and what their law is... any state, and I would love to read what it says.
I know the CSR told me Texas was one of the states. Post what their law is when you find it if you wish. Might be faster if you can ask one of your DISH CSR friends about it since you use to be a DISH rep. I may be all wrong about this but it is what a CSR told me.
 
I cannot find a single thing even close in the state of Texas. I am going to point out... CSRs are generally not knowledgeable in these matters. 99.9% of them are there for a paycheck and when they do learn something new, they misunderstand it and exaggerate it greatly.

Understand that. It was either the DISH Loyalty or Retention department I was dealing with at the time.
 
Loyalty and Retention are the same thing, but they are just the same as the CSRs. Same with Afvanced Tecch Support, however the Broadband Department was usually the smartest. I heard there were some major changes there, but hopefully didn’t degrade them too much.

Box 12157, Austin, Texas 78711; 1-512-463-6599 or 1-800-803-9202 (Within TX only). The obligations under this Plan are insured by a policy of insurance issued by American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida, [11222 Quail Roost Drive, Miami, FL 33157]. The purchase of this Plan is not required in order to purchase or obtain financing. The Definitions section of this Plan is amended to include the following: The Registration Number for Federal Warranty Service Corporation is 269. The following is added to the Can this Plan be cancelled provision: This right to cancel applies only to the original purchaser of the Plan and is not transferable. Under Can this Plan be cancelled, the cancellation fee for Existing DISH Subscribers is deleted.

New DISH Subscribers: If You cancel this Plan within the first [180] days after activation of Your DISH Network account, You will not be charged the Purchase Price and any applicable new subscriber credits for the Plan will end. If You cancel after [180] days of activation of Your DISH Network account, the Purchase Price paid by You is fully earned and You will not receive a refund or credit."

So this looks like for a new Subscriber if you cancel you lose the credits that were given when you signed up. But you don't pay anything more for the plan.

OK. So did you see anything about other states? I think the CSR said there is maybe 7 to 10 other states that are like Texas.

Then I joined Dish only 2 years after they started up. I have been with them a long time. So far no complaints here. I get a good deal on the packages. I trusted them so much, which I still do, I bought my own equipment and set it up. They have been good to me.

Yep sometime during their first year I signed up. Most important over all these years their signal is extremely reliable and though a couple of hiccups with a couple of earlier receivers, they have been also reliable and are among the best. To this day the 612's I have had since HD started (Not the exact ones the same model) are still comparable to others plain receivers.
Nothing is all rosy of course but I have asked for and received several discounts over the years before they finally had current customer discounts. When I ask they drop the shipping charge the times I had a receiver replaced and I have yet to pay an upgrade fee or even for the complete whole new installation when HD came along when in Ct I needed both the WA and EA. I got three new receivers at the time too. (I believe upgrade from 508 to what I still have, 612's) They have had some strange policies over the years but then again the years of having Distants was great and still great having the Superstations. CSR's are honestly among the worst or at least have been I have managed to avoid them for the Super CSR's. (AKA DIRT)
So yes for me they have been great to deal with overall.
