Local DirecTV contractor to lay off employees - Business First of Columbus:

"A local contractor for DirecTV Group Inc. is laying off as many as 50 employees after the satellite provider unexpectedly reduced its work order.
JBM Inc., which does business in Columbus as Bluegrass Satellite, filed a notice with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services indicating 50 or more employees could be laid off for an indeterminate amount of time. The company said DirecTV (NASDAQTV), its only customer, informed JBM it was taking some contracted work it had been performing and assigning it to other companies."

Could you follow this one. If you can find out why they were dropped and who the new guys are.......... that would be interesting. I don't know Blugrass Satellite but may be able to find some who do.

No doubt they were dropped because they suck. Who are they gonna give the work to? DirecTech? More of the same! The guy who owns JBM as John B Mattingly is involved with DirecTech under the "alias" J. Basil Mattingly. And then there are 50 iterations of DirecTech and its all pretty shady. I can't believe Ruppert is pushing one of them away from his corporate teat!

I'm pretty sure that the guy who did my install (aug. 07) was contracted to Bluegrass. Would they come this far south? He lived in my area but I think he worked through them. He was great. (you would expect Bluegrass to be in Lexington anyway)

I did read that they were getting rid of a lot of retailers lately. Maybe they are splitting up the workload and giving some retailers additional work or maybe they are able to pay someone else less for the same work to save money.

Reason is they unionized.

Bluegrass doesn't want to pay them fair wages so they would rather just pull out of Columbus. Its a shame, but thats how they do business. If they can't take advantage of the installers, they'll just close shop. As a result, everyone and their brother is hiring techs in Columbus to make up for the workload.

Bluegrass laying off those employees is probably the best thing that happened to the techs. Now other companies are coming in and will pay well, as opposed to the Bluegrass Cartel which had a monopoly in Columbus.
