Local Channels

Does ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX come in on different channels instead of the local channels? Other words, do they like come in on some kinda national channel feed of some kind from New York and California, not the local affiliate channels? I can't seem to find them in the guide. If not and you do not take the local channel package, how do you get ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX thru the satellite?

the only way to get the local channels via satellite is the local channel package. Especially on dish, since they lost the Distant Networks Lawsuit 18 mos ago or so.

Thanks Hemi 6.1. Tried it out and it says I need a wavier for all four network stations. I get excellent HD for all four channels in OTA antenna and the satellite. I was just curious about it and wanted to check to see if the sound levels were different. Thanks again.

Yep, I hear ya. It doesn't hurt to have backups. The satellite and OTA antenna have outstanding picture quality. If something happens to them, I still have basic cable for all four networks if I have to use it. I am more interested in the East and West feeds to see if the sound levels were more steady.

Short story is that Dish used to offer the NY Locals and LA Locals to anyone who would pay for them. Are you sure the sound levels aren't because of the digital channels switching to 5.1 surround sound? Or is it where commercials are much louder than the TV shows?

I am not sure ThePug. All I know is that switching from some channels to other channels the sound level jumps sky hi on us. I guess that is the 5.1 surround sound switching, right?

That is what we have noticed. When in 5.1 Surround Sound, the volume is way lower. When it switches to something that is just in Stereo, the volume level is way higher.

Yep, same thing with me. I remember several threads on it in this forum but forgot what causes it. Not much you can do about it from what I remembered. I did read up in a search one time that the future audio/video receivers were going to have something to deal with it. I think Sony was one of them that will be coming out with the feature.

Same here, when the show is in 5.1 no problem, when it goes to commercial ,and 2.0, the volume screams!! What i do is when it goes to commercial i mute the volume on the receiver, plus i dont have to hear the commercial garbage
