Live from Team Summit

No problem I know you had alot to clean up

On a related note do you think there will be some kind of online steaming with blockbuster

Given them spending all that money on Blockbuster and then settling with TiVo, I can't imagine that would not be in the plans somehow. But I am now in the know like Scott usually is. And with this being my finals week (way too much to grade!) I have not really been able to follow the Team Summit stuff as much as I would like. :)

So it's essentially free for new and existing customers.
Any news on when will be able to get the free sling adapter?

Scott's post said new customers. What about existing customers?

They are complete idiots if they didn't. If they came out with a 922 app for blockbuster, I would drop my Netflix acct immediately and sign up.

I'm happy with Dish I know alot of people like sports but I could care less for sports. I love movies. It would be nice for more HD channels they are doing better on adding HD then Directv does know. I have Directv also basically for channel 101 for Damages right now.

I've only been a Dish customer for a few years, but I've been in the software/hardware business for more almost 15 years. I've seen 'future product' announcements come and go. The one thing I've learned is to not get too excited about vaporware. As far as I can tell, that's what this new receiver is. Sure, they might've built a demo box or two, but until it's actually shipping, it doesn't exist.

Trolling these boards for a while, I've also learned that the phrase 'soon' is almost always stated after the words "Dish is coming out with ----". That tells me this is a company that, unfortunately, likes to announce products or services, weather channel anyone?, then not follow through with the actual implementation; they just say things to appease the crowd. In this way, Dish is no different than many other companies (RIM).

So while these discussion on new products, costs, fees, etc, are fun to have, I'm not trusting any new announcements until I see some follow-through. I was very excited about the 922 when it was announced, then followed the boards where people complained about paying premium costs for a sub-par machine that didn't do what it was originally announced to do.

Just for info, the term 'soon' is used equally with both Dish and Direct, with pretty much the same meaning... :)

But the term 'up to' is generally reserved for Direct!!

Yes please. I still want to know what "thin Client" is.. CABLE? or Cat5/6
Thin client isn't about the connection technology as much as it is about the hardware that the user interacts with. The real work is done on a "server" and the user interface is presented on a thin client.

Has one one seen this actually working. Server and Thin client box? This will tell us if its vapor ware or something that is close to working and actually can be released on time this fall.

The dish online website is really coming around. You don't even have to be a customer to watch shows on it. It works like netflix, hulu, and YouTube rolled together. You'll be able to get content sooner though. The blockbuster deal really opens up a lot of movie opportunities for dish now.

For existing customers see bold part.

This fall but I'm sure it will be early next year.

I was basing my comment about vaporware partly on Scherrman's comment above. Also, I think if they had anything to actually snow people, it would have been on stage with them.

I'm not dissing Dish, they're just like almost everyone else.

my opinion is we won't see it released this year, but they swear it will be out around november of this year.

Btw I found out what all the fuss was about earlier. I am not paid by dish to say anything. I am however paid by dish to run dishsupport.com. However that contact is expiring May 14 and is not being extended. I announced this already in the pub.

I have always been open and honest about what I do, no reason to change now.

either fearnet or try and get monsters hd and rave back from voom :)
Don't hold your breath.
Niche channels will most likely have to wait their turn until mainstream HD channels are fully added.
Here's a way for all niche channel fans to get their long awaited fix.....Blue ray/Netflix account.

That is correct. My attitude will be: "IT IS ABOUT @#$* TIME" just like it is with the whole home DVR. My attitude is perfectly consistent. Do something innovative, and I'll applaud you. Do the same thing as all of your competitors, and I'll say: "it is about time!". I mean, is anyone going to celebrated and congratulate Dish when they bring back Disney in HD or ESPNU or ESPN News in HD? No, they will say that it should have been like this all along. Which is 100% correct.

And no, it really wasn't much of a point. We're just being childish now.
I have come to the realization that Dish as a company does not care about RSN's or sports in general. I state this based on Dish'd disputes with several RSN's as well as spats with other producers/providers whcih deliver sports channels.
At the end of the day, if one is a sports fan, they should look elsewhere for their pay tv services.
