Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network off Dish due to contract dispute

I live in Philadelphia, and this is almost like those Eagles fans that are always so thrilled that we are always under the cap. Funny thing is, I don't benefit from it one bit rather I suffer considering we haven't won the big one and the reason we are so far under the cap is because we let good players go.

This is the same with the entire E* vs. D* profitability. WHO CARES! And I am started to get annoyed at all these shananigans Charlie is doing. It was OLN now Lifetime. Funny D* has those and it already had NFL Net and ESPNU so why should I be thrilled, considering their prices are darn darn close.

OK, while we probably can all assume that this is true - SO WHAT??? (not yelling at you SG)
D* managed to put LRW in TC+ & is NOT raising the price on EITHER it or TC, while E* is DROPPING channels & raising the price on ALL AT pkgs.

DirecTV generally raises prices in March. Everyone will be raising their prices because of ESPN/ABC/Disney and Viacomm rate hikes. We just have to wait for the other shoe to drop.

To keep quoting this site's leader:
And sorry, BUT I DON'T CARE ABOUT E*'s OR D*'s PROFITABILITY - IT'S A NON-ISSUE!
The ONLY thing that matters is what I get & how much it costs - PERIOD!

No one addressed my post earlier in the thread so I will ask the questions again:
http://www.satelliteguys.us/showpost.php?p=434713&postcount=63

So what is the answer?

Should Dish just pay every time and raise the prices more to cover the cost?

Or should they do everything they can to keep the price they get charged down?

Or does anyone really care as long as it doesn't affect them?
-----------------

Remember that the price hikes are mostly caused by rate hikes by the providers! So complaining to cable and satellite companies about raising their price and at the same time complaining to cable and satellite companies for dropping a channel because it got too expensive is just a little silly, isn't it?

See ya
Tony

Viacom was bigger news than lifetime and rightfully so, Viacom took multiple channels including CBS which people need for multiple reasons...

Listen, they had 7 months and NEITHER SIDE turned to the customers for support so I really don't know what to think. This may be new to lifetime but charlie has run the scrolls early in the past. If this gets worked out, they won't instantly add the new lifetime channel, they'll ease it in so people don't see it and hate it right away (or love it right away).

Disney knows about E* and their tactics, they're not backing down here and neither is charlie and I think that's why it seems like they're still far away.

After thinking about it (3 hours sleep this weekend mind you...) I think people are going to go to cable instead of D*. D* will get you into a commitment and with CES coming up, and the next 6 months or so being very active, I'd hate to be locked into a contract right now if E* (after CES) seems like they're going to get their sh*t back together later in the year...

To answer the question "Should Dish just pay every time and raise the prices more to cover the cost? ", the answer is yes. Everyone else does it and they don't have these raging customer issues. We pay for TV and don't benefit when channels are taken away. Even in the viacom thing, that dollar didn't justify taking my channels away. I pay for TV, I want to watch TV.

Dish Network should raise prices as long as they can stay competitive to the competition. In this case, if DirecTv is not going to raise rates after paying the increases for the programming, then they should not raise rates this time.

Dish Network can choose to raise their rates, and the subscribers can choose to switch to DirecTv. One may not switch because of a $2-3 difference but the Lifetime in addition to that may persuade them to do otherwise. How about that for a poker match.

Lets say D* is raise prices (even when they said there not) has we know in the past E* and D* have raise prices about the same and D* pay's more for programming because they more subs so why can D* pay what Lifetime is asking and E* can't?

I'm waiting for Ergen's announcement that all of our accounts are being credited for the two missing channels. Waiting......waiting........waiting.......

In this game of chicken, Ergen's gonna cross the road first and get flattened by a truck. Customers are going to go with the provider that will suppy what the customers want. If he's waiting for Lifetime to come crawling back to E*, he's in for a real long wait.

Lifetime page updated with 110% more feminine outrage:

"CALL NOW AND TELL DISH NETWORK TO STOP DENYING THE TRUTH AND DENYING WOMEN LIFETIME: 1-888-284-7116

The Truth is that DISH Pulled the Plug on Women on New Year's Eve, Over Just Pennies, and Despite Lifetime's Offer of a Contract Extension"

and one is PROFITABLE and the other is not

You can choose your opinions, but not your facts. DirecTV made a profit the last quarter.

Yeah, let's call dish CSR's who'll read us a memo we've already seen...no thanks lifetime, we'll wait...I just watched "The money pit" a few weeks ago, I got time...

Directv's contract probably wasn't up last night, which could explain why they don't need to pay lifetime more money right now. They agreed to add the other channel but that shouldn't effect the deal they already had unless they re-upped already...

When E* had the Viacom problem, wasn't it said that D* would have to deal with it in a few years as well?

...and I like how I stopped getting comcast ads in the mail 3x a week because of their merger with adelphia, and when I actually need some of that wasted paper...

...Their website says they carry Howard Stern on-demand, interesting...

I am on a DIsh Contract till April. Looking at the Terms, I can get out of it if I pay a prorated fee for each month left (which is not that much).

The retailer how ever I think looses a lot more on the commisions.

My wife already called the cable company about Prices, and they offered 4 Months free if we switched. They are having a LIFETIME Switch Promo to get all the Dish network customers with out Life time.

Is Charlie anti-Woman? Why is he taking Lifetime and Lifetime Movies off the air, and loading up a bunch of sports channels that people don't want to pay for?

Again, I ask: Is Charlie anti-Woman or what?

A few days ago it was "Dish Hikes Rates" and "Greedy Charlie sticks it to subs."

Now when Dish attempts to hold the line on cost, it is "How dare Dish drop <insert channel> ?" and "Charlie is Greedy B*st*rd and takes my channel away."

Holding the line on a "major" cable channel is exactly what we want Dish and Direct to do! Otherwise, we have no right to complain on the next rate hike. If we want them to pay whatever is asked, then that's exactly what they will ask us to do.

BTW, I am married and this means nothing to us as we never watch Lifetime. Once again, I wouldn't have known this channel was gone if I hadn't have read about it here.

No he just doesnt cave into hysteria

Well I say, let's have Ergen pull all ABC/Disney/ESPN programming off the air right now and let's get this fight over with all at one time. If your gonna fight the fight then declare war and get it on.

If Charlie hadn't raised rates and did this, that line of reasoning would be better supported. Because he announced a rate increase before pulling Lifetime, people are wondering what they're paying an extra $3 a month for.

PS. You don't put quotation marks around the phrase "major network" when you're talking about the 8th highest rated cable channel.

New to Dishnetwork and have a question...
