D* doesn't give a crap. Its not them that makes the rules!

If they are using a third party to determine the zip codes for markets for locals and RSN's they are not in compliance with the FCC. The majority of people within those markets should be getting the programming without cheating, but it takes calling in to get DirecTV to fix the errors. It does work, I called about an issue with NESN HD for Western Massachusetts, and Engineering finally fixed it, without me having to lie about physical address.

Lets remember I asked them about a temporary move as it relates to the OP's question and taking a receiver for tailgating. I did not ask about "moving" to get out of market channels. While i doubt D* really cares about that either it did not come up in the discussion

Are you rally that ignorant? No, they dont make laws but yes you do need there approval to do anything with there signal.
OMG, im sure he isnt REALLY that ignorant:rolleyes:

Getting approval to use THEIR signal isnt the issue, he means they dont care(as has been shown) whether you temporarily move a box home for christmas break

You did tell them the whole story right as in you read a debate that was on a forum? Anyway its a escalation called signal integrity and yes they pay attention and have a team that controls it, that’s why its a escalation everything that’s escalated goes to a "team" that deals with specific issues.

I really have no reason to make this up, why would I waist my time? You can either ignore it or play by the rules but everything Ive stated is true and correct and yes I did ask my friend yesterday and got the same answer Ive always got and that’s escalate the call to SI and they will investigate it.

I told them it was a person i know that was asking the question, but as far as the facts of the discussion, i left nothing out. All I can tell you is the information that was given to me.

Explain to me how its signal stealing in your view. If no new channels are being received, you are only getting what you are paying for. Its not like you are hacking the signal stream. THAT is why D* doesnt treat this as a big deal.

Wow I had no idea this conversation was still going let alone take off the way it has. This was just an idea I had while I was home over Thanksgiving break and was wondering if it would work. I agree with the people that say D* does not care and its no different then the lakehouse/tailgate argument. With that being said I decided to just talk my parents into signing back up with D*, they just got a new HDTV so I gave the HD channel pitch then throw in the Big 10 Network and it was pretty much a done deal.

Quite an interesting topic though, just not worth the hassle of seeing if it would/wouldn't work.

Lol yeah just seemed like the easier thing to do, just wasn't worth the risk/little reward. What amazes me are the people on here that get so intense about a question, wanting to see if it gets prosecuted...etc. Definately some users who are very passionate about this I guess.

Yeah, i guess so. When i see someone state "you could go to jail over this", I just wonder why.

Im telling you Dtv dose care, that’s a fact. He asked if its legal and you all said yes just dont let them know your doing it LOL! The fact remains they do care and they will do something about it if they can (hard to prove)

Look at your contract people your receivers are only authorized for one home period, if you are not authorized to use the receiver at your parents house then its signal theft point blank, and DERICTV dose view it as theft, that’s also a fact not an opinion. You want to argue with me about that’s fine but it wont change DTV’s policy’s regarding the issue.

ok lets talk facts here, if this is a one box account the point is moot. it would not be signal theft at all. his box would only get the channels he subscribes to.
if there is more than one box then that is a whole other ballgame. i would call them and just change addresses for a month. boom done.

That’s right she's absolutely never wrong, look her up on the net sometime(Im sure
There’s something about her there) all you need is her first name its Doris, now your ignorance makes me laugh as well so aren’t we both content:)

Well now thats ridiculous ! only one Doris works for DIRECTV ?
Damn i wanted a job with Directv but my name is Steve and my friend Steve already works for them , damn im gonna be homeless soon cause i bet people named steve work alot of places that i might want to work.

Calling DTV or the IRS or the FBI is like the man with the pet gorilla.

Even though the man owns it and can command it to do things............shouts and hits won't work because that damn monkey is to big. Real force will only make it angry. Pull it around with your truck and good by truck. But worst is attempting to kiss up to the gorilla by telling who stole the bananas.
If that gorilla decides to make love, someone will be hurt in memorable ways.

Don't ask DTV.....don't steal from them.......don't call either.

Joe

Ive never tried drugs, now i remember why !

Just an update on another response i got. Now this just covers the Tailgating aspect of the temporary move, but as you can see its not a problem.

Dear Mr. Smith,

Thanks for writing. I understand you want to use your extra receiver with a spare dish you have to use whenever you travel. I had the opportunity to review your account and would be glad to help. I apologize for the delayed response to your email. I tried to call you today around 10:45 AM CT to assist you, but I was unable to reach you.

To address your concern about using the receiver and spare dish while tailgating, there should not be a problem with you doing this as long it is not being used for commercial use.

For fastest assistance right now, please call us at (888) 355-7530 between 6:05 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. ET every day. If you would rather have someone call you back, please respond to this email with a phone number and a good time to reach you and a specialist will contact you in the next 3-4 days.

Thanks again for writing; we appreciate your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,

Dana B. ID#xxxx
