Legacy LNB's ?

Sorry boba but you are wrong about legacy LNBs and switches. IIRC all Dish receivers, including those with model numbers in the 1000's, will work with legacy equipment. So the OP... Oops the guy who hijacked this thread about legacy LNBs, should be OK doing what he is now proposing. Certainly going with the new DPP assembly for a 500+ would be more elegant, but if he already has the legacy equipment, he might as well make good use of it.

Anytime!

He's best off getting a DP500+ for his situation.

Legacy LNBs will work with all receivers (unless I've lost my marbles), just won't work for getting 118.7

You hijacked this thread back on post #19 so to clarify you want to receive 110/118/119 using LEGACY LNBs and LEGACY Switches with a 612 receiver.

As I understand it 110/119/129 61.5/72/77 can work with LEGACY LNBs. As I understand 118 DISH receivers are not programmed to work with voltage switching LNBs they will only work with Dish Pro technology. The system for dish 500+ or 1000+ must be a DISH PRO SYSTEM. If I am wrong someone will point it out but it would explain your problems with LEGACY and 118.7.

really dude? there was no activity on this thready for over a month when i made my post.

You guys... The not-exactly-OP in post 19 has already stated he can get 118 just fine, presumably using a non-Dish LNB. So, while all your statements about not getting 118 with a "legacy LNB" are true for Dish, they are not true for non-Dish equipment. I was also unaware of any SW44 switches by Dish. But the not-exactly-OP says he has one, and it probably will work as I stated above.

thank you.

i have tested all 3 of my signals, 110, 119, and 118 individually and combined via sw21 and work fine. like i said, the issue I'm having is pulling in all 3 signals when doing a check switch. none of my birds are DP equipment, neither are my switches.
i'm just wondering if there's a switch besides SW64 or a combination of switches that will allow me to pull in all 3.

Reason i don't want a sw64 is for the money i pay for that, i might as well by a DP 500+.

I've also tried a SW31 and a SW21/SW21X combo, and no dice.

Did you try your SW44 with two outputs going to two SW21's and two cables down to your 612? I've seen pretty obnoxious behavior out of a 625 with only one tuner connected. IMHO that ploy ought to work. Alternatively, if you have 4 SW21's lying around, that too should work.

no i haven't tried. going to try tonight.

my mistake I don't think it's a sw44, it's just a switch that allows 4 inputs (2 signals high/low) and 4 outputs. so essentially like a SW44, but it's a 4X4 i guess. regardless, going to try it tonight.

i do have a few sw21's. would that work? i thought you had to use a sw21x when combining more 3 signals or more.

Yes, cascading SW21's should work. My original Dish Network installation included one twin and one dual legacy LNB on 61.5. The twin has SW21's inside (according to my receivers). So, with 4 SW21's cascaded, you should be able to feed both tuners with all 3 sats.

Well, I stand corrected: http://www.satelliteguys.us/threads/205350-How-to-Combine-3-Legacy-LNB-s Seems you are right about the use of a non-Dish SW21X and the Dish SW21. Huh.

so i tried a few things last night.

I hooked up 110 and 119 into sw21X. the out went to port 2 of a dish SW21 (which apparently powers the 21X) and 118 into port 1 of SW21. when i did a check switch with a 512 receiver, it fown all 3 sats. when i hooked up my 612, it wouldn't find all 3 sats. So, the 612 has cascading issues.

When i tried 2nd setup to my 311 in the basement, it wouldn't find anything. I had to hook up 118 directly to receiver for my parents to watch international programming.

I've come to the conclusion that these legacy LNB's don't have enough power for 2 dish receivers since they are power hogs and that the 612 has issues.

So if I want to enjoy the benefits of all channels, I need to put up a DP500+, which i intend to do so this weekend.

thank you to those who tried to help out. much appreciated.

When you tried to connect the 311, were you still connected to the 512? Your comment of "the conclusion that these legacy LNB's don't have enough power for 2 dish receivers" makes me ask, if that is what you did, how were both receivers connected?

yes i did. had same setup with one line to each receiver. The LNB's could not provide enough power i guess for 2 receivers. both setups had sw21 with sw21x.

Well, then, with two receivers powering the LNBs, I don't see why that didn't work.
