Last: Killing Them Softly

This movie was ok. The picture quality seemed really good on bluray. The dialog was entertaining enough but I'm not really sure what the point of the movie was.

Next: Either Star Trek Into Darkness or Now You See Me. It will be whichever bluray Netflix sends me first.

I'm with you KAB. I have been using Netflix since 2007 and have only bought a handful of blurays since. Before that I went to the store every Tuesday and checked out the new releases. Most weeks I would come home with one or more. It was really disheartening looking at my stacks and stacks of DVDs I knew I would never touch again after I got into Bluray and lossless sound.

I started to buy new releases on bluray and even re-buy some I already owned on DVD and then I realized that I was only watching most of these movies once and some still had the shrink wrap on years later. I knew that I would just build up a new library of movies on bluray and then something better would come along to make me not want them anymore. The Netflix model works a lot better for me. I still get to see every movie I want with the best picture and audio quality for less than the price of buying one Bluray per month.

3D blurayrental.com is saving me a lot. Now I dont have to buy anything except the 3 or 4 movies I really want to own each year

Only buy for me so far is Man of Steel 2D.

Yeah, Netflix doesn't do 3D but my local Family Video has all the new releases. I just get most movies from Netflix but if there is something I want to see in 3D Family Video is right between my office and house.

NF does have a few 3D titles, but your ISP has to be connected to NF's Open Connect platform. I have Comcast, which is not.

My charter Internet isn't part of that program either. I was actually talking about the Netflix bluray rental service though. I do use streaming but mostly for TV shows.

Last: Into the White

Only 1hr and 40mins, but it seemed a bit long. That being said, I liked it. There is no "fighting" in this movie, it's purely a study of what happens when British and German soldiers have to share a cabin during a hard Norwegian winter after being shot down, and try to survive.

Outstanding. Great demo movie too, haven't had that much scifi fun with eye candy and music since Tron Legacy, which makes sense since the same guy directed both IIRC.

Star Trek - Into Darkness

Some bummer parts, but otherwise it was fun (and a tad predictable in a couple spots)...still enjoyed it.

Just watched Star Trek Into Darkness. The bluray was definitely a treat in the picture and audio quality departments.

As a side note, is Dolby TrueHD making a comeback? When I first got into bluray you would find a pretty decent mix between Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio with a few uncompressed PCM tracks now and then. For the last few years almost every bluray I have watched has been DTS. It had gotten to a point where finding a new release with TrueHD was almost unheard of for whatever reason.

However, the last two movies I have rented came with Dolby TrueHD tracks. The first one was Pain and Gain and now Star Trek. Have you guys noticed this trend in bluray too or was it just a coincidence? I don't have a preference and in theory TrueHD, DTS Master Audio, and uncompressed PCM should all be the same because the Dolby and DTS formats are lossless. I just always find myself checking the Onkyo screen at the beginning of movies to see which format I am getting.

Tonight was Evil Dead (2013). The original Sam Remi and Bruce Campbell movies are probably my favorite horror. This is not one of those movies but they did borrow a few of the classic scenes from the original.

When I heard that someone was going to remake Evil Dead I assumed it would be pretty bad. After I read a few positive reviews I decided to give it a chance. I have been meaning to watch it for a while and now that we are approaching my October horror movie fest I decided that it was time. As a long time fan of Evil a Dead I still prefer the original but I'm glad I watched this.

Last: Redemption

Overall pretty slow. Some good fights in the typical JS style. Great audio. I give props to Lionsgate for their authoring of the disc. Like their new studio logo. They finally got their authoring down. Skipping through previews was seamless and quick. Everyone needs to learn this.
