L4.49 for 622 Ready to Spool?

I am very new to Dish network (about 2 months) and have a 722 that is having some reboot issues. Tech support said it is a known software problem (L448). My serial number is not in the range of the update that was recently spooled, and as of this morning was still running L448. I am curious to know how these releases usually take place. Are they always released in stages? Is it reasonable to expect an update to my receiver soon?

That may be true, but reboot issues can also be due to overheating.

Check the "Temperature" thread in the Dish Network Technical sub-forum.

If your 722 is in a closed cabinet, you either need to install a fan, or move it out of the closed cabinet. You also should not put another electronic component on top of the 722, nor put the 722 on top of another component that is warm.

For all content/channels?

There was talk awhile back, that the component output will be crippled to put out 480p or 480i only in the near future. Just wondering if that what "Content Management" was about..

Any further info or speculation on whether they will (whenever they roll it out) eliminate ALL 1080i output on component, or will it depend on the channel or the content? Might they just force 480 for movies? Would they allow 1080i for HD locals? I was hoping they would hold off on this until the Mitsu lasers are out, otherwise I may be forced to buy something else sooner. I wonder how many people will drop their HD package? If they kill all of my HD, why would I pay for it until I get a new TV?

All tv regardless what provider you have will have to be hdcp compliant. Meaning hdmi and no more component. This is not the providers fault but network and big wigs in Hollywood running with this. The date when this takes place, who knows. Scott had posted a memo going to Dish installers about hooking up hd to hd receivers in 2008 because component will be downgraded to a 480i or 480p picture. I can't remember which. 480p I do believe.

The providers share some of the blame too - as do all the lemmings that blindly take what hollywood dishes out. If providers refused to sign some of these contracts and viewers boycotted producers that insist on restricting or crippling content, they'd have to loosen up - or go broke.

Trust me, once they realize how well they can restrict what you can do with what you pay for, it's only a matter of time before they find a way to force you to view commericals too. I fully expect station logos and preview banners to eventually take up half the screen.

Society has become so addicted to entertainment that they forget they are the ones with all the power - and hollywood has forgotten that most of them would literally starve without an audience.

Ironically, it is Competition that undermines that.

For example, if Dish Network were to say "we won't accept Hollywood's restrictions", then Hollywood says "fine, you can no longer show our films" and on Dish Network, HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Starz go dark, and all the other channels show a slate during movies, then millions of their customers would switch to DirecTV and Dish would be out of business within a few months.

If you don't believe me, read the "angry about no new HD" thread...

I have had problems with my 722 since it got this software L4.49. I have had two or three lockups and I have had to unplug it to get it to reboot. THe power button didn't work to reboot it either. I have had frequent freeze ups that require a reboot. My lost locks are now at 52 /97. Nothing has changed on my end and we have had no rain in two days. Anyone else having problems?

Thanks for the warning. Maybe they'll stop deploying it and we'll wait for 4.50.

Have you called Dish to report this ? When small groups of users get a s/w update, they *need* to know when there's problems. Clearly their small 'beta" group is insufficient to find things.

622 here with L4.49 and no problems so far, only thing I see is a slight delay on some channels when u first go to the channel, other than that its all good so far!!

NO, but being a beta tester in the past, I still have the email address and might drop them a line.

Yea and that's basically the same rational Charlie used to retract his pledge to never allow porn on Dish Network.

Simple but true: "if you don't stand for something - you end up standing for anything".

Dish licenses with the content provider aka the channel / network. It is the channel/network's issue to correctly licensing the rights to broadcast the films to their customers.

The only part that strays from this comes when the content is recorded.
