Just ordered another new receiver

I've been using the new skybox f3 for about two weeks now, which has a m3601 SOC and more memory than any of the previous openbox/skybox versions. They just released a new fw, which I'm using and it seems to be the best so far. It has a little freezing on Montana PBS(not much though), but I have a weak signal on that TP. Very fast blind scans, about 5 to 8 minutes. I haven't recorded anything yet and I don't know about motor functions, as I don't use a motor. Just have three fixed ku dishes on 30w, 97w and 125w. Got it from China, only took three days shipping by DHL. You got to be careful where you buy from in China. There are some clones of the skybox f3 already out and some dealers promise to ship in 24 to 48 hours, but they will post an invalid(fake) tracking number to make you think they have shipped in the specified time. So far, I am really impressed with this new box for my purpose.

Here it is:Wholesale - New arrived Original Skybox F3 1080pi Full HD dual core CPU Satellite Receiver cccamd newcamd MGcamd, $48.07-59.90/Piece, 1 piece/Lot | DHgate.com If you order, email the seller first and ask them not to use an invalid tracking number, ship in the specified time, and pay by paypal. That way you can open a claim if something goes wrong. The claim process with DHgate is a farce. DHL uses a customs broker and you may have to pay custom fees(not always, but it can happen). EMS takes a little longer on shipping, but you will receive it through the US post office. I would never use China post or Singapor post. It can take weeks or months with them. Bye-the-way if you order one, I have the latest fw and american satellite list. It is in RAR zipped form and I can't get it to upload here, but you can PM me with your email address and I can email it to you.

...I'm going by what I've read, and there seems to be more complaints than compliments on these...
There are probably more Openbox receivers in active use than any other single series of receivers. This could lead a casual observer to think there are many complaints when, in fact, the number of issues being discussed is due to the popularity of the box.

The S9 is a totally different animal than the S10,12,13,14,29,666 models

As an owner of the Sathawk (the original that Sadoun had), the Solomend and a S9 along with an S10 the S9 versions (Solomend and Sathawk) worked great once they got the bugs worked out. The S10 I had some issues and only had it for a little bit. The small size I think is part of the reason. No where for it to breathe

I fixed that problem by adding a small fan to each of my S10's and they run 24/7 with no problems.

I suspect both Pansat & Coolsat have more receivers on the market years after they were stopped being produced you can still find them. thats JMHO probably Pansat with the most and coolsat next both i would suspect outnumber all the opensat , openbox, Solomend and Sathawk combined at least here in the US.

now in use .. i don't know with as many problems ( bugs) with those listed even with the DVB-s limitation of the pansat & coolsat they are still being used i know i have 3 coolsats and one pansat that i use often.

That's all legacy. I have a Coolsat and it's great. But I think few would buy them today, even used (except for dish orientation purposes) because its technology is too old. No HD, no DVB-S2. Openbox is definitely the better choice today.

since I don't record with the openbo:mad:hardrives too slow) I could probably still get by using the old coolsat 5k.
At least it had better motor control.

I agree! Just like I saw a few posts about the AZbox having problems, but without actually having one myself I can't really say if AZbox is a good receiver or not.

Last night I started reading the owner's manual that came with the Skybox S12 HD receiver.

I had to laugh when I read:
WARNING: Do not use this receiver near water such as a laundry tub, kitchen sink or swimming pool. :)

As I looked at the Skybox S12 HD receiver last night I wished it came with a stand to position it vertically such as those supplied with computer routers and external hard drives. This would allow me to position it near the TV on top of the dresser within our master bedroom were space is limited. This might be something for Brian to consider supplying with the MicroHD receiver.

where do i start?...the openbox glitches an freezes constantly on HD channels regardless of satellite or tp. The blind scan is miserably slow.
Audio will not come through on many channels SD or HD.

my pansat 9200 HD's with their issues perform way better.

i didnt even try to run diseqc with the openbox. i pitched it in a box in the attic with the remote taped to it. like i said ....mine is a real dissapointment. couple it with c ku combo lnbf and you would have the pinacle of POS free to air system.

As long as you don't watch any HD or DVB-S2. My S9 works well for diseqc 1.2 motor control.

coolsat had fine tuning for diseqc motor control, and the signal beep function.
Openbox with a universal lnb is a nightmare diseqc motorized.
Which is strange, since it's geared for the eurasian market and that's the type lnb they use.

Coolsat does. This is why I keep mine for dish orientation purposes only. I used Openbox with a universal LNB and motor for months. Once you know you can't move the motor with a universal LNB while on vertical polarity, it's not so bad. But I definitely recommend a standard LNB in that situation. I never found a single occasion where a universal LNB was actually required.

The glitches and freezes on HD channels is probably due to the low memory. I was disappointed to see that the Skybox S12 only has 128MB as well.

could be the processor itself.
Years ago when the sti5105 came out and was used by other receivers, they bragged about the speed and the 4meg flash size.
The flash was never utilized 100%,they only used about 1/2 and at the end of it's life they blamed the processor for the poor performance.
I can kill the openbox and I don't need jtag to recover, which is a plus.

Of course some of the 3rd world markets these boxes are for,the laundry tub is the kitchen sink and swimming pool ; D
