All the talk of Primestar got me interested in getting one, found one a few blocks from my house that is 40"x30". Paid $20 for it, it came with the mounting pole, my son and I dug it up with the cement intact. I plan on putting it back in the ground using the original cement.... would that work? I wanted to save the cost of buying the cement.

I plan on aiming at G10 R for my parents, it came with an LNB that has separate H and V outputs. I also want to add another LNB to get White Springs TV, would the 2nd LNB have the correct spacing next to the Primestar LNB?

I will be setting this up over the next few weeks so may have some questions to ask along the way.

You may be able to bury the pole, cement and all but make sure to do it with the dish off to level the pole as best you can, may be an idea to keep the dish off for a while to let it all settle.

Good idea PSB thanks!!

I would also soak the ground a few times to help it all settle!

I picked up a 2 3/8" 6' pole at Home Depot, along with 2 bags of quick set post cement for around $20. Nice strong support for the Primestar. You will like the elevation adjustment :)

Good find! I LOVE setting up the Primestar!

iafirebuff,

Did your Primestar LNB have separate H and V outputs? I'm thinking I just need to hook up the vertical side for G10

Neither of the Primestars I bought had lnbs. I added a Fortec Universal lnb (I had to cut off the plastic on the "neck" to fit in the 20mm mount). Fits perfcet!

In case you didn't see my other post, here is a pic of my Primestar install - aimed at IA5. I have the Fortec Universal LNBF on it.

most Primestars do have the separate V &H outputs. You can hook it directly to V for G10 or get a cheap DirecTv 3x4 multisiwtch to combine the outputs into one so you can get both H & V :)

Nice set up there iafirebuff!!! :up Did you find the two new christian channels on IA 5?

It's best to cement the pole into undisturbed ground. Around here cement only costs $2.00 a bag and you only need about 3-4 bags. Or you could put the pole in the ground with the cement still on and put a bag of new cement between the old cement and the undisturbed ground, molding them together and getting a good fit. If you go without any new cement, you'll have to tamp the soil very firmly around the pole or it will shift over time. Have fun.

Thanks for the tip Ice.... do you know if it possible to add another LNB next to the Primestar LNB for 129 IA 7?

At our Home Depot a 50 lb bag of quick set for post is $5ish. It took 2 bags for the 6' post. Here are a few more pics.

Absolutely correct. Thats what I did. Added new concrete to the existing concrete around the pole. And an added tip... dont mix it too dry. You want to make sure the new cement enters every crack and crevasse.

And as I'm sure you know already...the most important thing is make sure you post is absolutely plumb! Because you'll only get 1 shot at it. :)

How much are these multiswitches now? The last time I looked years ago, they were $99.00.
