Out of curiosity, how many have paid for a take it down yourself and haul it away c band dish?

I've come across a local, perfect condition 12' Paracliipse that I would consider paying $100 for but that's about it.

I see prices posted in the craigslist thread that approach $4-500 or more.

What's your cutoff?

I paid $100 for a Perfect Ten 10 footer, and got the ball-screw Venture actuator with it. That actuator alone sells brand new for around $250. It was already torn down, so all I had to do was place it all in my trailer, and tie it down to haul home.

I could see myself maybe paying $200 max for a nice at least 10 foot dish like that one, BUT, it would have to have an Horizon to Horizon mount on it. That would be my limit. I wouldn't pay even that much, if I had to also actually tear it down.

I paid $50 of the $100 asked for a 10' Winegard Pinnacle on an AJAK H180. I would have paid the $100 but I couldn't stop myself from negotiating a better deal.

I am probably lucky, but I got both of my C-band dishes for nothing. My first was an eight foot solid. I just stopped in at a house where I saw a pizza dish on the roof and the wires hanging from the C-bander. They gave it to me.

While I was installing it on my roof, I saw a neighbor's ground mounted solid Birdview. One day I went over there just to say hello and compare notes. The guy gave the BV to me.
Two solid, spun aluminum C-band dishes for zero dollars. I have been lucky.

Right now, the stuff you can get with C-band is pretty good. I count three premium stations and a whole mess of HD. If you have a C/Ku lnb system on there, that one big dish gets you about a third more good stuff to watch. They say it's not what you make, it's what you don't spend. At this point, about seven years into this hobby, I have long since justified the expense - and that's without calculating in the time, expense and annoyance of mailing monthly checks to faceless corporations.

My first BUD was a Birdview (see sig), and if I recall, I might have paid around $135? in cash & gifts.
But the owner did help a lot with the take-down.
I really wanted a Birdview, and this was the first I found really close to home.

The other BUD in my sig was removed at the request of the owner, after hearing I might be interested.
He helped, too, though there was a lot less to do!

Both are on H-H mounts, so there's no argument both were good deals. ;)

edit: oh, your $100 Paraclipse...
Yea, if I wanted one, I'd go $100.
And you said it was in great shape.
That's a big dish, and a big job.
Several people have 'em.

But if you think you need 12', you should already be thinking: ortho feed.
'Cause, with one and a very few other dishes, you might not need 12'.

I have paid $30 each twice for almost the same dish, a 7.5 ft mesh, both already down and ready to load. Also, I was installing 3 ft KU for a couple years and most homeowners wanted me to take their old dishes away...

Years ago I paid $250 for 10' Dish, 4DTV 920 with HD Unit, but he did help me take it down.
Sold the Corotor w/ LNB, 920 and HD unit and ended up with a Free Dish and a few bucks in my pocket.

$75 in gas and $10 to buy my buddy a hamburger got me a free 8' Channel Master. Add another $30 for a 10' long 4" sch 40 pipe for mounting and I consider the free dish costing a a bit over $100.

Ha,ha, sounds like my free deals.

Yea okay, if we're including hidden costs... ;)
I rented a truck for $75, and bought my buddy two meals!
We moved both dishes & H-H mounts in one long day.
Plus there was a day of prep, digging out the Birdview a week earlier.

Yes, a highly desirable dish is worth $100.
And yes, many members have gotten the same for "free".
It's only when you spend $250-500, that we'll question your sanity. ;)
or if you spend money on a junker (which might be okay if you got it for the mount)

Well there really are no hidden costs.;)

I was talking about actual money for the dish, but I would consider $75 in gas on top of money paid for the actual dish significant.

If I could find a nice 6 or 7 foot mesh in my area, I'd gladly pay 100$ for it. Seems all of Tou-Can's finds are in Texas, California or MN.

Cheers, K

I live in a remote area and most of the old cband dishes are still sitting on their mounts. Almost all are mesh, most are 6' but there are many of all sizes. The only thing is condition. Most are missing panels but seem to be true. I just posted about a 7.5' mesh in good shape I might bring home. It'll be some work to get it home on the boat, but I'll see it again next week and start making plans to restore it. I don't want to waste time or money.

Getting one that's too small is the worst way to waste your time.
No six footers! Look for eight feet for your first BUD.

My first dish was a 7 1/2 foot dish and it was free. Disassembled and ready to be hauled off 10 miles from the house.
My second dish was disassembled from the guy I bought the 10 footer dish and he brought it to the place where I work, 5 miles from the house and I paid $50.
Both are mesh dishes but I had to get 1 pole for the dish.
I hauled the quarter panels home on top of my escort stationwagen and pole and polarmount went inside the car for hauling.

I fully agree, not smaller than a 8 footer. My 10 footer is the best dish I own so far and if I can help it I will not go smaller on dish size again.

Money comes and goes
know about a 12' Paracliipse dish ? and what it entails to bring it up to 21st century use ? is it still a button hook ?
you in Fla ? if so lots of wind there.
good luck
