Just curious what the dangers of buying a 4K Joey off eBay are. I see a few on there (claiming to be new-in-box) for a good price. I'm considering upgrading my current Joey 2.0.

Get the RID and smart card number from the seller, call Dish, and verify that they can be activated. You’ll want to call the main Dish number but navigate to the “close my Dish account” option so you can deal with a CSR in America (likely Denver or Tulsa).

Thanks. That was my concern - buying one and it being on a list of equipment that "fell off a truck" and can't be activated.
