I was watching CSI miami last night on the HD lil (kovr 13) and when i started wtaching it, the picture was in 4x3 aspect ratio. Then about 2/3rds of the way through it switched to 16x9 but i lost the sound.

If i went to the SD channel 83xx it wa 4x3 and sound was good.
I watch cbs quite lot but this is the first time i have noticed this behaviour.

My question is, does the 622 automatically try to drop back to sd if it cant get a good hd signal ? or was this some other type of fluke.

I am running the latest software 3.65 i am using component (hdmi broke weeks ago) on a 42 incha plasma. I have the HD channels mapped down but i got the same result on the specifc hd channel.

Anyway i wasnt sure if this was a bug, because cbs in sac is such a poor signal or as designed.

gbjbany:

This was a Local issue (OTA right) and any of us that watch/record OTA HD see this all the time. Wrong sound, SD instead of HD picture until someone calls in and says "Where is the HD picture". Don't think there is such a thing as drop back, or at least I have never seen it and we watch a lot of HD programing. If you are talking about MPEG4 I don't have them from DISH and don't know.

This has nothing to do w/the 622. It has to do w/ a Master Control Operator at the stations switched to the wrong source. CBS sends down 2 different feeds 1-SD & 1-HD. What happened to you is what I see happen here in my area at a local. An example on last Tues L&O: SVU. The video when coming out of a commercial froze for a full 15 to 20 mins but at least the audio stayed on. What it says is the MCO isn't watching the program closely but getting ready for the next commercial break.

WOW! Another reason to just use OTA? Using OTA you either have it or not in HD as far as I know.

You may have been watching "dish" HD locals but DISH usually receives them OTA so you are actually seeing the same thing you would see if you were using OTA.

yeah, that's definitely a local station screwup. I see it occasionally on my locals as well. Some of the NBC programs are 100% HD except for the end credits. I think the local operator is just too lazy or busy at that point to push the button.

No diff

If the station screws up it will show the same was OTA as it is over Dish. IF Source has problem then playback will show the same no matter how you receive it.

Friday Night Lites is SD here... the switch operator at KOB asleep at the wheel like he / she was when Studio 60 started... oh well 2 programs I don't or won't watch as I missed the first one...
If the station is screwing up that much then just contacct the GM and let them know that you were going to be watching the station at those times until this things happened. That you will be telling others how much that they are screwing up and that will start showing them that the $$ will be going down. I would tend to think that if it continues the guy in charge will start letting the head of operations know that he better get his act together real fast or be seeing a pink slip.

whats the difference in 129,119,110,61.5

Versus in HD on Dish?
