I am really interested in getting all german channels: RTL, SAT1, PROSIEBEN, ARD, ZDF, EUROSPORT, and so forth. Is there a company out there that would enable me to receive such programming?

If there is a way to get the German or UK channels, no one has figured it out yet.

If u have legally subbed european channels in Europe and DSL or other broadband internet service with good upload speed , around 360k, u can buy Slingbox and install it in your home in EU and it will allow you to watch and change channels , so far there is no PAL Slingbox yet but NTSC slingbox is working good with PAL system, some report from UK and Germany.
check this link , presentation ...

or their web page or forum

I am not afiliated with this company , i just have one Slingbox and I am still waiting for real Slingbox PAL to watch EU tv in USA

P.S.
I just found review of Sbx on this forum by S. Greczkowski

Wouldn't that be rather expensive? Doesn't Europe mostly meter their internet/phone line use, rather than have a flat rate for unlimited service?

Most do,but there are a few here in the U.K. that have a flat rate.

Would you have to use a Slingbox,or could you use something like the Kaon KVR 1000? Most new T.V.s over here can use a NTSC signal, but are any T.V.s in the U.S. PAL compatible?

Very few TVs sold in the U.S. are PAL capable. A few get sold to military and State Dept folks that go back and forth overseas, and can be obtained thru catalogs or online, esp thru military exchanges (dept stores). Not likely you'll see one in any brick & mortar otherwise.

That site looks good- thank you. I'll bookmark it for future reference. Since it's all in German, it won't do me any good. But I can also use it as a springboard to find UK programming that might be provided the same way. I got hooked on "The Monastery" while visiting London, and now may have to wait years for it to hit DVD, if ever.

I just received a reply back from overseatv.com. The signal received here in the US is standard NTSC so it can be received by a standard US TV!

Hello,

Good to hear from you. All signals are in NTSC. You can use your existing TV setup with no problems. Have a great day.

NTSC is the analog specification for TV in the U.S., Canada, Japan, and certain other countries. It will be replaced completely on 2/17/09 by ATSC, the digital version. Fewer countries will be using the ATSC system. Today you can almost certainly get digital channels OTA, coverage is in the high nineties, percentage wise.

The system discussed will send an NTSC over a broadband connection to your computer or TV. In German.

I found this service recently which is free, although according to the terms of service you are supposed to be able to receive German TV channels OTA from your location in order to use this service. It's a little complicated and confusing, but I've tested it for my German relative visiting us here and it does work:

www. iptvanywhere.tv - it is not working yet but within weeks it might be interesting solution for Germans

www. overseatv.com/german.shtml - this service is working now for sure

Does anyone have any experience with either service? It looks like iptvanywhere.tv is operational but there is very little information on their site.
