I got spoiled, I had SF hd local distant channels for a couple of months. I live in an area where you can't get ota hd, never, ever will here. I got really mad because they took them away from me and my nps programming is unwatchable unless I go in the bedroom and watch on the sd set.

Will I ever be elgible for hd locals through Dish, without lying about my address, or should I just switch to Direct now? I can't afford them both and I've been with Dish since the beginning, but I want hd locals.

Can anybody shed any light on this.

Thanks in Advance.

just lie about your address.

My checks, and credit cards are tied to this address. How do I get by that? Move, quit my job and go to a new location, get new checks, credit cards, then secretely move back? sounds dishonest to me and I'm not into that.

First when you say they took them away, what are you talking about, because the only HD Distant on E* was CBS. Second, to "move" all you do is call dish and change your service address to somewhere else where HD's are on the sats. Just make sure you have the proper equipment. Do a search for "move" and you will find all the info you need. ;)

How did you get SF hd local distant channels. Dish wouldn't give it to me though I qualified and gave me kabc sd back then.

Well first of all I've had SF as local distant since Dish was sold in CA. That is the reason I got Dish cause I already had directv before. At the time that was the only local option in the area that I live in.

When I got hd the SF channels came in as hd programming. They got taken away during this latest local distant crapfest. That, now left me with no ABC in my locals and no option to get it and no chance in hell to ever get local hd programming. Directv says I qualify for hd local programming.

Now if I change my service address I have to tie a phone in that area to my "new" service address, and what happens if I get mail at this made up service address? And my phone number still has this area code? Doesn't look do able.

It's VERY doable - many people around here have been doing it for years, including myself. I have both E* & D*, with both accounts w/physical addresses WAY far away from where I live & have NEVER had a problem with either.

Again, "searching" for this around here will give you all the info you need (& then some)...

the only phone number that has to be tied into your account is the one they already have. you don't have to change anything or actually move anything. no credit cards. no checks. no employment verification. you just call them up and say you want to change your service address. the call takes about 2 minutes. you won't get mail at your new service address because your billing address (which is different from your service address) remains unchanged. the only possibility for a problem is if your dish blows a LNB or something and you need a house call from a technican. in that case, you just "move" back to where you actually live and then call right back and speak to a different technician to ask for the service call.

The 411 has an Off Air Input. If you've got an off air antenna you should be able to get the HD Locals no problem - without having to change your address. That is assuming your leaving somewhere in the vicinity of SF.

Thats funny, you can't even get fm radio in this area and the tv stations are all blocked by mountains.

I know a guy that is getting locals from a DMA that has not been offered by E* in this area in years. When Dish first went live that DMA was offered and he got it. Then things quickly changed and no new customers were allowed to get it, they now had to get the closer DMA or Distants. When they killed the distants I called him out of curiousity and asked him and he is still getting the old DMA. BTW he billing and service addy are the same what it really is.

Well I'll have to admit, it was much easier to do than I thought, a 2 minute phone call and I was moved. Mind you I installed my own equipment and own my own receivers. She asked if I wanted locals, I said for right now I have all american direct. Went online and put in the x for local programming and got all my channels back in 5 minutes. I kept my current billing address and my current billing phone.

I moved 70 miles.

What do I do in an Iffy area
