Is professional installation of CINEMA Connection with Whole Home DVR really needed?

  • Server Issues.

We are very aware that there have been system issues the past few days. In troubleshooting the system, it has been determined that the issue is at our provider and is hardware related. As of 12:05 PM ET our provider has moved us to a new server.

Things seem to be running better on this new server. However in trying to diagnose the issue (before finding out it was a hardware issue) we made some system changes which we need to undo. So if you find any issues or errors please let us know in the Operations Center Forum.

Thank you for your patience! Sorry for the issue!

You can Dottie yourself. I just did. I have a GIGE capable router and cat 6 drops all over the house. These term into my directv receivers and other Internet ready devices. The hard part is getting them to activate the whole home DVR. I had to email tech support and ask for "unsupported whole home DVR activation". I also explained to them what kind of network I have.

But make sure your router is up to the task. I recommend a 10/100/1000 router. Not because of the GIGE handshake "receivers only connect at 100mbps" but because of the higher capacity processor and buss in the router.

My setup works fine 0 issues.

Good luck.
