My family surprised me by getting me an iPad as they knew I had always wanted one. :)

Question I have is: Will I be able to put both the apps I have and the apps my wife has on the same iPad? We both have our own Apple IDs for each of our iPhones.

I thought you could but I just wanted to clarify.

I don't think so. I think the iPad is restricted to one user ID. My wife and I ran into the same situation and are planning on a second iPad.

You need the one account. Don't make two separate accounts.

My wife and I share an account for her iPad and my iPhone. Only pay for apps once and they work on both.

Of course, this assumes they allow two iPads on one account.

We have two iPads. Each iPad has its own iCloud Apple ID. But they share the same Store account (easily set in the App Store settings). In fact, that same store account is used for my son's iPod Touch too. And he has its own iCloud account for it.

No reason for you to be buying apps twice. Just requires some thought beforehand.

Yes. My wife and I share apps from each of our separate accounts.

As DogerKing says, yes you can. That's how we originally set thing up with our iOS devices and it works fine. We have since settled on using a single store account to make things easier.

I 100% agree that having one store account is much easier than trying to share accounts. With the iPad and iPhone there is no real reason to have your own account since it is just for store purchases. The single account doesn't have any restrictions on how many devices you have connected from what I know. If you don't want to share the only way I know to do it is to just login with the account from the device and then you have access to all of the items that have been purchased. The problem is that you have to login again later on if there are updates to the app that you want to install.

The downside of separate store accounts is losing access to the purchased tab for music, movies, tv shows, books, and apps for instant download, and you have to use iTunes to sync stuff between devices. Single store account makes life simple.

But for accessing imessage or FaceTime or iCloud backup storage separate apple id is essential. If you have an iPhone and iPad they can share that, and should since the iCloud account will sync your address book, contacts, safari bookmarks, email, and etc.., between YOUR iOS devices and your mac. Works like a charm.

Interesting. I'll keep that in mind as we pursue more iOS devices here. Sorry for the inaccurate info in post 2, Jason.

It is only inaccurate in the sense that the device can only have one Apple ID for Face Time, iMessage, iCloud; the separate store account is often something forget. :)

So if I understand you right, my wife and I can both have the same Apple ID for the store, but maintain different IDs for iMessage, Face Time. Would this also be for our contacts? That was my wife's concern is we would get our contacts mixed up.

That is correct

Contacts are through the Apple ID assigned to the device, NOT the store account. so, the answer is yes. :)

I have the following setup:

MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iPhone, iPad = all on the same Apple ID (mine); they all use the same store account (also mine)

My wife has an iPad, on my store account, but her own Apple ID for iCloud, and once she is eligible for an iPhone upgrade this summer, an iPhone.

My son has an iPod Touch, on his own Apple ID, but my store account. When he is able to get an iPhone, it will be the same setup.
