IOS 8 Discussion

I don't think that's part of Hand Off. That's Continuity. I have an iPad 2 and have been using that feature. I also found out it's basically FaceTime Audio. I let a call go unanswered and it showed up as a missed FT Audio call on the FT app on my iPad.

You're probably right. I don't have all the new iOS jargon down yet because I couldn't watch the presentation and I've only had it a couple days. Whatever it is, it's a cool feature.

Yes sir!! It is way cool!!!!

Ok, so how do I get it to work with Safari? I think I would use this a lot. I will often be looking for some quick info on my iPhone and then decide I want to read some more in depth info. The small screen doesn't cut it for this so I will try to find the same site on the iPad.

On Apple.com, in the iOS 8 what's new section it says it should automatically work as long as both devices are logged into the same iCloud account. It says you can automatically bring up the same link. I just tested this with the apple.com page I was reading and don't see how to bring it up on the iPad.

Edit: It's not quite as automatic as they made it sound but I figured it out. Basically you hit the share button like you would if you wanted to post a website to Facebook or copy the link. When I did that my iPad showed up as a device under the airdrop section. Tap there and wait for a prompt to pop up on your iPad. Tap that prompt and you are viewing the same page. That's not exactly how I thought it would work but much easier than the way I used to do it.

That used to be called iCloud tabs or something like that. That was part of iOS 7. You are correct. Each device must be on the same iCloud account for it to work. On the iPad with Safari open tap on the icon that looks like two squares. It's in the top right corner. After you tap on it it will display each iOS devices and the open Safari tabs on each. The icon on the iPhone safari app is at the bottom right. I love that feature. I use it all the time.

Ok. That's much better than the AirDrop thing I just used. For some reason it's not working on my iPad 4 though. When I check with safari on my iPhone 5 I can see all the tabs I have open on my iPad. When I check from safari on my iPad none of the iPhone tabs show up.

It's cool that I can go from iPad to iPhone but I would be much more likely to actually use it the other way around.

Edit: Never mind. I just found out that it doesn't work when Safari is being displayed on my iPhone. As soon as I went to the home screen all the tabs showed up on my iPad.

This is what a phone call looks like on iPad. It's basically the same thing as a FaceTime audio call. Missed calls even show up in the FaceTime app.

I just started playing with the lock screen widgets. So far my favorites are the CBS Fantasy Baseball app, The Weather Channel, and Kindle. I'm looking forward to MLB at Bat and ESPN ScoreCenter to be updated for widgets. Is anyone using any cool/useful widgets I should check out?

At the moment only a couple of my apps have added widgets. Weather Channel is one of them.

So if you have an app that has a widget it adds it automatically? I've been trying to figure out how to add those.

No you have to pull down like you would to see notifications. Then at the bottom you tap edit and pick the widgets you want active. You can change the order around too.

I've noticed that after upgrading to iOS 8, the Bluetooth in my vehicle goes in and out at times. It always connects when I start the truck but I would say that in a 15 minute drive it will disconnect and reconnect 3-5 times. Anyone else had this issue?

I use bluetooth audio to my car daily to listen to podcasts. So far I haven't seen any changes after upgrading to iOS 8. I'm using an iPhone 5.

I noticed something odd last night on my iPad with iOS 8. Was watching an episode of a TV series I had purchased through iTunes. Previously at the end of the episode the video app would switch back to the menu for the series. Now with iOS 8 it just continues to play the next episode. I don't see any setting to change the behavior. Not a big deal but I happened to nod off towards the end of the episode and woke again in the middle of the next episode wondering WTF?
