Instructions for moving dvr file and converting

I can't locate a thread that tells me how to convert a dvr file so I can view on my PC. I recall someone giving the details a while back but I can't locate it. It would be a good "sticky" if someone can help.

VLC Media Player will play the files as they are: VideoLAN - Official page for VLC media player, the Open Source video framework!

Just install the version needed on your pc, and play the files.

Guess I am too spoiled and need specific directions to find these files.

The drive that am using has other files and sub-directories on it.

Now that I scanned the USB drive, I found the files in a subdirectory called ALIDVRS2.

It also writes a test file to the root directory called test_write1.dvr.

This type of info could be in a sticky.

VLC will play most everything.
If it won't, THEN worry

If you would like the technical specs for a given video file,
download MediaInfo, a free application for your computer.
It is the defacto standard for expressing the details.

I believe Cypheros TS Doctor will handle these files (join the parts, fix errors, and create a single .TS file), but I haven't tested it yet due to Olympic coverage recording. I'll try to test it soon, and post back here with the results.

My computer with Win7 just plays them in the media player. I was surprised it does and didn't think it was using any additional plug-ins, that I'm aware of. My son even downloaded some into his Samsung tablet that plays them from the USB stick. I'll have to check further.

Different channels will have differing video specs.
In future discussions, it would be prudent to name the channel AND post basic parameters as given by MediaInfo.

For editing , I would use VideoReDo, as I have since 2005.
It'll fix timing errors too, but don't expect miracles if you have lousy reception. -
