Hello all,
I use to have an XM radio several years ago in my vehicle. I was thinking of getting a boombox set up for my office. My window points to the west, do you think I will be able to get reception without a direct upward line of sight of the sky? Or will just placing the antenna next to the west pointing window work?
Thanks

Only way to know for sure is give it a try. If you can't get a signal from the satellites you may be able to pick up something from the ground repeaters.

There is really nothing special about that antenna. All XM and Sirius antennas are designed for outdoor use, that one is just on a mounting bracket and costs almost $60. Complete waste of money. The XM antenna that came with my original Delphi SkyFi home kit in the summer of 2003 and the Sirius antenna I came with my original Audiovox Sirius Receivers home kit in the Fall of 2004 have been on top of my roof since the day I got service and are still in fine shape. We’ve gotten it all in Buffalo over the past few years, 90+ degree summer days, winters at 10 degrees with negative temperatures with the wind chill, feet and feet of snow, 50+ MPH winds, hail, sleet, rain for days on end and the satellite radio antennas were just fine.

I have the XM and Sirius antennas on top of my roof with the cables for each zip tied together, run down the side of the house, drilled a hole through the concrete, in through the basement and up through the hole where the cable TV line comes in. Works perfectly. No need for the so called ‘outdoor’ antenna.

Or if you have sat radio now, Premium will get you your stations over the internet, no further hardware needed. Most, not all, stations, that is.

if you can use the office internet for streaming...the online sounds better than satellite since it has more bandwidth. i have not had much luck with through the window reception
