Don't know if this specific fix has been discussed or if anyone else at this time is experiencing it. But over time I have seen people who all of a sudden SD channels are the wrong aspect and no amount of changing settings from the DISH receiver, resetting or TV settings will fix it. In fact it may be on channels that you can not even change the aspect ratio with the receiver settings. And that's the clue.

I just had that starting yesterday and figured it out after thinking about it. I found an SD channel that will allow the receiver to change the aspect, ran through all the settings normal, stretched etc etc twice and left it on normal. When I went back to all the other SD channels it was fixed. Somehow after changing the aspect on an SD channel earlier that allows it, that setting stuck even for channels that normally you can not change the aspect.

This was both from the OTA adaptor and the Satellite channels.

I've done this for years, go to Ch 95 and show the Customer the 4:3 and then "fit the screen" to see which he prefers and that changes on all SD channels - except on the Hopper 3 and Hopper Duo. (Not sure about the Wallys)

Never has before for me on channels that you can't change the aspect ratio. This was the first time and now is repeatable.

Just a follow up - it is as I thought this is new for my receiver. In the past if I changed the SD aspect ratio on a channel that it could be done on, it had no effect on an SD channel where you can't change the aspect. I checked another one of my VIP same 612 receiver and sure enough on that one what I just described is what happens - not change on the unintended SD channels.
But for whatever reason and after resetting etc now on the other 612 when I change the aspect of an SD channel it changes the aspect of an SD channel you can't change the aspect for. To undo it as I described I have to go back to the SD channel that allows aspect change and change it back to normal thereby fixing the SD channel that can not accept aspect change.

How or why this happened now on this receiver - who the heck knows. If it is that way for everyone it has not been for me since ever having the 612's!

You can't change the aspect ratio on OTA channels. At least my H3 won't let me, I have to watch them the way it comes in

On both my VIP's it has always been some SD OTA will change aspect, some will not. Till now making those changes never affected those SD channels that could not change aspect as I would expect. On one receiver however now, changing an SD channel changes even those that can not be changed.

I've got a 612 if you want me to test. What channels are you watching/changing?

I would have expected if I change the screen output settings on the receiver, that it would affect every channel. In fact, I know it does. My family would change (intentionally or not) when watching some Disney XD shows. Then, later, we'd be on ESPN or other HD channel and I could tell I was losing content.
