Im tired of these rich fat execs who think they know what the viewer wants. If FIOS wants to beat cable, they need to differentiate themselves. Fios thinks its so cool cuz it has better picture quality, Well guess what, a lot of people dont care. There current cable providers provide decent picture. If Fios wants to differentiate themselves, I say they should do 3 things.

CUSTOMIZATION! CUSOMIZATION! CUSTOMIZATION!

Let us put channels where we want them. Do you know how cool that would be. If we can put cnn on channel 1 or 12 or 1000, it does not matter. People love customization. We should be able to put channels where we want them. People will love this feature.

Let us erase channels we dont need or watch, or even subscribe too. Im sick of flipping through 10+ HBO's, which all say not subscribed too, and by the way, that screen takes a while to load up, JUST TO GET TOO my starz channels. LET US ERASE CHANNELS!

And finally, do everything you can to make channel changing instantaneous. You have no idea, that this little thing makes the customer feel like the quality of the product is so much better.

If fios does these 3 things, they would really differentiate themselves from cable. Nobody is going to switch to fios and pay a ridiculous amount of money, because they have a couple of extra west coast feeds of HBO.

I think this would be quite annoying just think you and your friend both have fios, you goto their house non of the channels are the same. Or if there is a commerical that says a show is going to be on National Geographic but the add is on the discovery channel. You call verizon to find out what channel national geographic is on there is no way the would be able to tell you because you changed your channel lineup and everyones would be different. This is why its good to have one set of channel maps for everyone.

I dont see this happening either the reason they do this is so that when you flipping thru those hbo channels you dont have you may see a program you want to watch and call up to order hbo.

Perhaps allowing a display sorted by channel name would work. Who needs a channel # anyway? Don't most people pick from the EPG?

"Hiding" channels or allowing favorites lists should be a minimum requirement.

Instant channel changing is gone with analog. I'm sure they could throw horsepower at it, but the nature of ATSC and other digital variations will always require a short delay as an initial frame is built up. It's not continuous full frames like analog. It took me a while to adjust to using the EPG rather than just channel surf with the channel up and down buttons. But the EPG tells me a whole lot more and I can reduce the number of channels to check out with favorites lists.

Heres a thought, THEN DON'T MOVE AROUND YOUR CHANNELS. the ones who want to move them around can deal with that situation.

And the thing about the HBO's, people know they exist! if you dont want them, you shouldnt have to flip through them. ITS A PAIN IN THE ASS!

either way im right.

Ok so you go to someones house who has fios and theres a game on you want to watch. However this person isnt a sports fan so they rearranged all thier channels you ask them where is the channel and they have no idea because they never watch said channel. Now you have to go thru every channel to find it as their is no main list.

They do this so as your going thru the guide you may see a movie or show that peeks your interest. You turn to the channel and it says not available then you may call in to order that channel, thus increasing their monthly revenue.

either way im right.
hardly. They need to do a lot more to stay competitive. Its sad that they tout how much bandwidth they have yet, they are only up to 30 or so hd channels. it seems like they care more about upping the speed on their internet because it doesnt cost them anything, were as with channels they need to pay for the carriage of those channels.

Im Still Right

You know what? When cablecard comes out, there are going to be so many cablebox providers, and they will do everything I said. TIVO already lets you erase channels. So actually the cable companies will lose revenue, because why would i give 15 dollars to fios for a dvr, when i can give 12 to tivo, and they do everything I want. Either way, I will be right.

And this thing about moving channels. I dont know about you guys but I watch my TV at home. Im not breaking into other peoples houses and watching there tv's at night. And if in the rare occasion i am at someone elses house, and they let me watch there tv, and they happened to move their channels around, Im pretty sure I can use the program guide and find it in about 2 seconds. Seriously People, you act like it would be the end of the world. And what if they had a cable provider, or another cable provider, or dish network, or direct tv, or ota antenna, the channels wouldnt match either. YOU PEOPLE ARE NUTS!

And Fios used to let you erase channels, and now they dont. And you know what, I know people who are pretty pissed of about that, because almost everyone I knew that had FIOS used it. So it shows how much you know.

And again, I am 100% correct, because I am just a regular consumer, and all you people attacking me are founding memebers, or somehow connected to this website, so you have a BIASED POINT OF VIEW, and you support these companies because you have some interest in maintaining the status quo, probably because they send you money or maybe give you free porn or something. SERIOUSLY, i dont know any normal person who would be upset about the fact that they may be missing something on a unsubscribed channel, and they want to give the company more money. Its like when I advocated A La Carte, all you founding memebers attacked me, because this is what these companies do not want. This website is NAZIESQUE in its approach, and if you want to ban me, go ahead! it will just prove me right, and i can always make another account. GEEZ, ive never seen people so adamant about not giving the consumers choices.

IM 100% CORRECT! cuz im just a normal consumer, and all of you work for these multi billion dollar companies.

when cablecard 2 comes out, then you will be able to use a tivo box instead of a fios box. Actually you will be able to use any dcr ready box. The cablecard 2.0 will support 2 way communication for on demand, payperview, and switched video. So absolutley it is coming, FINALLY freedom from cable companies crappy set top boxes!

Verizon FIOS TV service uses IPTV for Video On Demand while cable uses QAM256 (aka like another channel) so this "could" pose a problem for VOD usage on a two-way Tivo. Tivo would need to work with Verizon so Tivo could write software that can directly interface with Verizon's IPTV VOD system and software.

I doubt this would be a problem but I figured I should at least point this out before anyone shells out money in the future remembering a post thinking it would work.

I think your idea has a bit of merit. I DO think that if all cable/sat companies aligned channels, ie, Food Network is always on 544, Hist on 601, etc, it would go a long way to solving channel blight as I call it.

They are right that TIVO does allow you to erase channels. That is cool. I have a Tivo HD on Comcast and do that all the time.

talk about customization...
how about RF remotes rather than IR
how about a PROGRAMMING guide that tells you the year and actors names
how about turning the ugly AMBER clock/channel display off and/or dimming
how about making the FAVORITES work like they used to before the upgrd
how about user option to remove the MAGNIFIED channel so I can just page up and down in peace
how about a LAST channel option that can page thru 4 channels
how about making the RF out work display HD instead of 480i (superbowl parties are just cool with multiple TVs)
how about making the clear QAM channels to include your local HD channels

im just full of negativity today!
