Actually, USA is by far the most-watched cable network, followed by MTV and then a virtual tie between ESPN and Fox News.
Actually...you're wrong.

USA is indeed the most watched in prime time. It is the 2nd most watched for a 24-hour day, with Nickelodeon on top.

As for MTV, it is below AMC during both prime time and 24-hours. In fact, with the exception of Nickelodeon, all of the Viacom networks rank lower than AMC. And, AMC beats it during prime time.

Also, ESPN is way ahead of Fox News during prime time, but a virtual tie during 24 hours.

The above is for the period of Q1 2012.

You know, Anyone can play the numbers game. ABC Family was the #1 cable network (with women ages 13-34), Nickelodeon was the #1 Network (with males ages 13-24 over 24 hour period), History Channel is the number 1 Network (in total audience growth). Cartoon Network is #1 (among boys age 2-14), Mun² is #1 (among young Hispanic viewers), AMC had the #1 cable show (Walking Dead March 18 2012). But that #1 does not translate to a lot of people watching the network. AMC cannot even claim to be #1 network on Sunday Nights in any category even when Walking Dead is running new shows.

Basically, even with a show that more than doubles the audience of any individual show on any other cable network, AMC cannot break the top ten cable networks. 16 is as high as it ever got in overall viewership for one week in March.

You know, Anyone can play the numbers game.........

What a great post. Really puts it all into perspective for me. You can bet this is what Dish is saying when they see what is reported to be quite an increase being asked for. Not helped by the Voom suit of course.....

That's what you see. But, what is being shown is that some satellite guys are OK with it, and some aren't.

Some will not care if a channel is droped others will. It depends on your own personal tastes and what your viewing habits are. I myself wouldnt care if lmn got droped but i would care if science got removed. It depends on the person. You cant please every one all the time.

I'm stuck in my two year contract due to the Hopper. But I would be very upset to lose AMC.

Ghpr13:(
If you upgraded to Hopper, it only adds 1 year at $10/month. So the ETF isn't so bad. I just got a Hopper a couple of months ago, making my ETF around $70 in the June/July time frame. If you're a brand new sub, then the ETF is quite hefty: 2 years at $17.50/month. I'll miss my Hopper, but I'll drop Dish like a hot potato when they drop AMC and IFC.

1 year? i thought it has always been 2?

I suggest you double-check with Dish. My contract extension was 2 years for the Hopper upgrade, as many others have confirmed for theirs.

As do many satguys.

Read MY post again. I pointed out that you listed total viewership for full year 2011, but demographic info for Q1 2012, not that you only listed one or the other.
Color me confused, but then I do not see a problem or grounds for accusation of unfair comparisons.
I posted total viewers for all time periods for apples to apples comparisons. I also posted some additional info for another comparison. If you want me to dig up demo comparisons for 2011 I will, but I can tell you there weren't terribly different from Q1 2012.

It was Fuji apples to Gala apples. AMC was rated higher in total viewership for Q1 2012 than for the full year 2011.

If you're gonna show Q1 2102 viewership by demo, why not show total viewership for the same period, instead of for the previous year? THAT would be apples to apples.

Sigh:

TOP CABLE NETWORKS Q1 2011 (Total Viewers - Prime Time) -the time period and numbers with AMC's highest ratings comparison.

1) USA - 3 mil
2) DISNEY - 2.6
3) ESPN - 2.4
4) TNT - 2.1
5) HISTORY - 1.9
5) FOX NEWS - 1.9
7) FX - 1.6
7) A&E - 1.6
7) TBS 1.6
10) NICK @ NITE - 1.5
11) MTV - 1.4

16) AMC 1.095 (Hey LOOK Ma... same numbers average for Q1 as entire year!)

---Q1 2012 -- AMC 1.182 How about that! Look it was an increase in viewership. An 8% increase over the previous year on average over Q1 last year.

The problem with a poll like this is that people that do not really care about AMC probably will not vote. As Tony has pointed out the ratings on AMC are of a mid tier cable network. Not a big percentage of people watch it and certainly not enough people are going to be irate enough to go through the hassle of cancelling service over the loss of the network. Believe me AMC knows this also, and this will put a lot of pressure on them.
