BTW - I am about to purchase several 48-core Opterons in a 1U chassis w/64GB RAM for... Are you sitting down? $6100 apiece! I can't imagine what you want to buy for $8K.

We are going to be looking for a fast system with RAID setup, battery back for the raid etc.

I went to serversdirect and just priced some basic systems together and thats where I got the around $8k price.

Sadly, "fast system" seems to be slowed down by "RAID" - but I'll never have a server or PC again without one!
