Is there any way you could test the new site on a different machine (perhaps a VPS) before deploying it on the live machine?

Some VPS providers offer a pretty healthy startup credit depending on your needs.

I tried... and I have this server so well tuned and so many different types of caching setup that is was impossible for me to replicate. If I could download the snapshot (i cant) and upload it to another server then maybe.

When I tried duplicating it here as a seperate test site it screwed everything up because of the caching is so intertwined. And I can't remove the add ons for caching and do it that way because then its not a real test of versions where everything is duplicated. Not to mention that many part of the site are stored offsite and served via CDN, graphics off of one CDN, CSS, Java and some other things off another CDN.

Ultimately this (below) was our issue with the editor not working. I am told I need to turn this off.

That might be it, made some settings changes after getting an adware trojan. Don't mind us, like, blocking ads on here do you?
