i am currently using a 301 recvr and a 500 dish.
i am scheduled for an HD upgrade install this week.
to be honest, before discovering this forum and reading for a few hours, i had no idea there were so many variables involved with SAT signal, reception, strengths, hardware, software, etc, etc.
now when i look to the heavens at night, there is more to see up there. it's actually a bit amazing.
since i still have a few days before the installer arrives, i wanted to bone up on the facts and be ready with some questions for the technician and maybe some specific requests so i get the optimum service without having to get them out here again...i am in a very rural area.
1. does anyone have awareness of any immediate 'redflag' issues with my area [New Mexico....30 miles north of Santa Fe...the espanola/chimayo area] that can be addressed with the installation tech such as choice of equipment, software, etc?
2. I have seen it written on this forum references to 129 satellite being a wounded bird. for now i am on 119 and 110. will that change when i get HD locals to 129sat? if so, are there alternatives? and would i be wise to discuss this with the technician?
3. i will be getting the vip211 [i assume] since i will not be setting up DVR. i am planning to lease it but have always bought the equipment before. i just thought that for the price they quoted me [around $380] the technology may be obsolete before my lease pays the purchase price. is this sound logic or flawed?
the main purpose of this post is to say hello, to express my thanks to this forum for all the free and detailed and insightful information available here, and to see if there is any way i can maximize my installation experience, to find out if there is anything i DON'T know that i COULD know that might help me not regret spending $800 on a TV and then an extra $26 per month on HD.
thanks for your time.
