I have not committed to anything yet. I have decided to sign up for Direct as I will save overall. I am a senior with limited means. My husband likes the sports. I am thinking of Choice or Xtra plans.
We have two tvs. I would like to have Direct on both, but it could be duplicate of tv 1. Can you run a cable or splitter to second tv like you could years ago. I see from other posts that I would have to sign up for 2 tvs and then return the genie. I would love any or all suggestions to keep my monthly bill down. I am going to sign up through Costco because of the $200 card.
Any suggestions or help before I become committed for another 2 years. Thanks!

:welcome to Satelliteguys lanarick66!

All outputs are live on Directv receivers/dvrs, so you can use the component output to feed a second tv if you like. If you are watching a channel that uses HDCP, it will disable the component output though. HBO and other premium channels use HDCP. The extra box, whether a client, receiver, or dvr, costs $6/month. If you get a Genie, you should keep that and return the client or other box. The monthly cost would be the same.

Can I decode the HDCP with a splitter, not to record, just to be able to mirror primary tv? Do non-premium not HBO, SHowtime programs use the HDCP also?

Welcome to the site !

The second recvr would only cost you $6 more per month.

You might want to inquire with the Costco D* rep about getting a Genie and a HR24 and see what they can do for you.

A genie & an HR34? I thought the HR34 was the Genie. exactly what equipment should I get? I would of course want the most recent receiver model.

The Genie is a HR34/44 debating on which ones they have currently ..
The HR24 is what I mentioned, thats a HD DVR ...
