I am JAILBROKEN! (NOW WHAT?)

Have you bricked a lot of Androids ?

I have bricked one droid x. No idea how it happened and if anyone wants to take a stab at fixing it I would love to sell it. The other droid x that I rooted at the same time sold fine and in working order.

If course the same may happen in the future with one of our iPhones.

Isn't it an "improved" version of the default Apple part ? Isn't Apple's called "Springboard" ?

I guess you could say that. It is more than just a better interface though it allows you control the phone and addons better than with the Apple version.

You brick it or is it just stuck in a boot loop? Most phones are not really bricked but just stuck in a loop that his tough to get out of.

I can't get it to boot android. That's my best explanation

I would t say it is stuck in boot loop.

Not getting the amazing battery life Todd is getting. I was at a party for 2 hours, was not using the phone, and it dropped 20%. I think IntelliScreenX notifications were to blame, so I shut off FB, Twitter, and RSS.

Dodger: what app did you use for the brightness icons?

So seems all the staff is Jailbreaking now. :)

Of course in a few weeks all the staff will want to load up iOS 6 Beta 1. :D

LOL - after iOS 5 beta 1, and half of the stuff I used not working anymore, I'll wait to bother you until at least beta 5. :D And then only if it looks like there are major, interesting features.

I was tempted by the Mountain Lion preview betas, but held back since I did not want to have my Mac not fully function.

I'm the odd ball one. Just not an iOS fan at all, kids have iPod touch's and I won't even help them with their issues with the device and iTunes anymore ;) No jailbreaking/rooting needed for me since I'm running CyanogenMod9.

I don't see how people are causing a brick on a root of the phone as the bootloader is still intact and rooting simply changes a few permissions, files, and installs SU.

If anybody is able to successfully brick an iOS device I sure would like to hear of it. As long as the home and power buttons are not physically broken, you can always get it into DFU mode and do a restore.

I had a 3GS that bricked during an app update. It made it to DFU mode but went no further. It did happen to be jailbroken but I am unsure if that was a factor.
I did bring it to an Apple store and 3 "deniuses" were stumped. they finally simply gave me another phone.

I do hear more stories of difficulties with rooting Android phones but Ia m the first to admit that this is anecdotal at best.

User error :D
Haha, very likely.

I still do not know exactly what I did different on one X versus the other. Now that I think about it, it seems like the problem came about when unrooting it for sale. Been a little while, so I may be wrong.

Still though, I had rooted and unrooted several android models with no issues. Maybe user error, maybe a glitch. Whatever the case, it gave me the same result. Might be an easy fix, I checked into it right after, but since I went in a different direction with phones, I lost interest. Am going to look into it again since a few members have offered help.

User error :D

exactly. rooting has become quite easy. most bricks come from users who don't follow procedures when installing a ROM. anyone can make a mistake but 99% of the time it'll be an error by the user. when it comes to iOS i don't know what you would have to do to brick it. awhile back my 1st ipad would stay stuck at the apple logo. put it on DFU mode and restored from itunes. very easy. jailbroke my ipad2 this past friday. i had forgotten how much i missed my cydia apps and tweaks.

I guess another question is will you be un-jailbreaking to do the Beta?

I enjoy the versatility of being JB too much to upgrade my iOS version before its Jailbreakable. Intelliscreen is just so much more functional than the normal lock screen, and bitesms is just more fully featured than the regular texting app. Not to mention the convenience of unlimited sized folders and dock space.

The bigger thing is that I'm due for a phone upgrade this summer (first time since I started jail breaking). Will the new iOS combined with the new hardware convince me to upgrade before a jailbreak is available? And for the record, I don't have anything against android, but I've got enough money sunk into iOS apps that switching platforms is not appealing at this time.

If the new phone has LTE and I can get it without losing my unlimited data plan, I might have to jump on it before AT&T copies Verizon's plan to get everyone off of unlimited data plans. I'm considering getting the hardware just to take advantage of something like that and to start the clock running on my next two year agreement/phone upgrade, but keeping the sim card in my old phone until a JB is released for the new one. Somewhat silly, but could be the way to get 4G, preserve my unlimited data, while not sacrificing the JB apps and tweaks I use so regularly.

OH NO VERIZON! New shared plans announced

Need new phone with storage ... suggestions ?
