I got 2 HR23s 1 H23 and a SD box installed yesterday. Everything went great and was working perfectly until last night. The HR23 upstairs will not respond to the remote. I tried new batteries - nothing. If I use the remote on the other units everything is fine but none of the remotes control the box upstairs.

Called Tech support and after an hour and 3 red button resets they are going to send out a replacement but that leaves me 3+ days without TV upstairs.

I was wondering if anybody here has run into this before or has any ideas.

Thanks

The HR23 now has 8 IR codesets it could be set to, test each code from 00001 through 00008.

Or it could be that the upstairs receiver is in RF mode? Try the following on a RF remote, one with FCC sticker on the back:

1. directv device
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
3. enter 9 6 1
4. press CH UP
5. enter the last 6 digits of the receiver ID # (RID) found on a sticker in the access card compartment
6. press SELECT

I tried those and still nothing. I guess I just got a bad box. Not sure why it worked earlier in the day and then stopped?

Thanks for the advice.

I would check RF on the remote for that particular receiver, and also try forcing the receiver to use rf for the time being, you should be able to do so using the buttons on the receiver itself, you could have a bad ir port, but rf would work fine, also make sure the remote is a rc64r.

Is the TV the "faulty" receiver is connected to an LCD with backlight? Some LCD backlight sensors emit so much IR it overwhelms the sensor on the DirecTV box, it's a well-known problem.

I tried going RF again last night and this time everything works perfectly!!

I will check this out later and let you know.
