Have you upgraded the hard drive in your HR20 or plan to?

I don't think individual votes can be updated.

I got all my stuff now to set up my box. The only problem is that I have so much stuff to watch on the DVR right now, that I can't plug it in until I watch it. I really hope Directv updates the box to use both hard drives.

why can't you plug it in? i have gone back and forth several times, all you have on the internal drive remains and can be watched by simply switching off the external drive and rebooting.

Oh yeah I forgot that Brewer said that. Thanks.

I hooked my new box up and the HR20 came up but I had nothing in my ToDo list and all my season passes were deleted. Anyone know what went wrong?

Do you have to setup everything again when you hook up the new box?

yes you do, the good news is if you go back to the internal drive, all of those will have been untouched. I am using this as a feature to have the internal record all of my day to day recordings and am using my external drive as a Movie Jukebox. I only hook it up to record a movie I want to save longterm., I record it and then shutdown and reboot to the internal for my everyday stuff.

can my poll entry be updated? i now have the seagate 750gb

I also have the newly designed 750 Seagate external hard drive but it'll be staying on my HTPC. Music comes first for me. I highly recommend Seagate hard drives,,the quietest, most reliable HD on the market imho. I have 2 of them now (and 2800 albums). :hungry:

2800!!! WOW..........

Well, I was gonna hold off but after working out of a town a few weeks I came back to a HR20 with 4% left. With all these new HD channels,my storage capacity is getting slaughtered. I'm getting ready to buy the Seagate Freeagent Pro 500gig, everyone still have a good opinion of these? Ive seen where people said 750 doubles storage, so I'm guessing a 500gig would give me about 75 hours.

Also, its esata not usb right?

Hows playback with the HR20 and an external drive? Any breakup or does it work well?

Thanks.

Guys, I just bought the 750gig free agent. Do I need a esata to esata cable or a esata to sata?

I assume esata to esata but want to make sure.

Thanks.

Just added a Seagate Freeagent 750GB. It seems to work fine, except the guide data is populating at a very slow rate. Have reset 3 times but no noticable change. Is this normal or do I have a problem?

Well, the 750gb FreeAgent is running good. Very happy I decided to buy it, recorded a few hd shows and still showing 99% :) .

Only complaint is having to redo my favorites and series links, but no biggie.

I have a quick question for people using the Seagate FreeAgent 750GB.

How quiet is it?

I'm already frustrated by how much noise the hard drive in my HR20-700 makes. The DVR makes quite a bit more noise than my old Tivo did. I've put together several external units from upgraded drives and enclosures I got from NewEgg, and in my experience they've all been pretty noisy. I don't want to spend $200+ to upgrade my DVR if it's going to add more noise.

I sit about 10 feet away from mine. I have an open ent center with 3 glass shelves. The HR20 is on the middle and the free agent is on the bottom, I cant even hear it.

My biggest gripe so far is the yellow light is way to bright. We were watching Astronaut Farmer last night and the whole area underneath the tv was yellow. I think Ill use some electrical tape to blot out some of it. I like how the Seagate emblem turns yellow, but no the rest.

Thanks. The local Costco has them in stock, so I think I'll run over and grab one. I've been having issues with my HR20 locking up when I change channels, and it occurred to me that having an external drive is a good way to not lose everything if I end up having to swap the DVR for a different one.

Im very happy at this point.

Two HD channels recorded along with 2 OTA channels recorded and I'm still sitting at 98%.

my understanding is that if you install the external drive on a new system you will not be able to retain the shows you recorded.
