Has it gone better than you expected? Worse? Has it affected your intentions?

And has all the confusion over what installations are allowed soured you somewhat?

I expected a mixed bag of issues, and a mixed response to expectations. So it was what I expected. :)

Say that 5 times fast.

As a new customer, while I am trying to stay positive I hope the field service manager can address my issues tomorrow then i will have a different answer for you :)

My install went off without a hitch. I've got 2 Hoppers & 4 Joeys. They all see each other on the network but I can't share content between Hoppers yet. I tried but it said "Update Coming Soon". I really hope that does happen soon. I'd be really excited when it happens! I had the VIP622 before with over 40 different show timers on it and I got the Hopper to eliminate some of the conflicts in recording timers. They're still not all resolved with the Hopper/Joey system but will be once the two Hoppers can work together. Anyone heard anything new on this???

While it may not quite be ready for Prime Time (pun intended) it doesn't seem like its far from it.

Welcome!

Now, about that word "soon." Ah, uh, er - oh, you'll learn "soon" enough. ;)

MAYBE we'll seen seamless integration late this summer.

After seamless integration is here, and OTA support, and preferably manual timer entry from the STB, I'll consider Hopper/Joey. Of course, by then, most of the annoyances and bugs will have been worked out.

Stick around, we're a good source of information, better than the CSRs dare I say. And the DIRT people here are without a doubt the best support you'll get anywhere!

I voted "About as expected" as we see some good, some bad...about what you'd expect.

However, yes it has affected my intentions the way it has been rolled out. After asking, and being refused, to upgrade to 2H/1J I started investigating what else is out there. Now I'm not 100% sure I won't take a new customer offer elsewhere and return to Dish later on when I qualify for new promos and they "officially" allow my desired configuration. Plus by that time there would hopefully be Hopper integration and OTA support.

And yes, I know there may be ways around them not allowing this configuration, but they should have never put a customer who was eager to renew for 2 more years in a situation where I had to even consider other options.

By the way, how long is it that you have to be gone before you are eligible for promo pricing again?

As expected. But don't take it as that much of a positive, my expected was problems more than it should be based on other Dish new initiatives, and it seems to have been. But it could have been worse too. There are several posts of overall problem free installs, or perhaps first day problems that went away. Take away what we think the system should be, and it isn't the worst roll-out by Dish. Again, not a ringing endorsement, but not like it could have been.

IIRC, six months. But, don't quote me.

Personally, I was drooling over the HR34 system for some time. But, those guys don't have one dealbreaker channel for my household. So, I couldn't go there. I didn't care for U-verse when I had that briefly. And, Comcast is way too expensive for the WH solution. (Although, their reps could never give me a straight answer on availability and pricing for my area. The downfall of operating so many disparate regional systems.) So, Dish seemed like the way to go again, even though I was familiar with their MO.

Voted as expected. My expectations were fairly high, but I expected some bugs. It looks like the upgrade thread is holding almost a 2 to 1 advantage over the bug thread so I think that's about right.

Better than expected. I didn't realize how easy, quick and versatile the new interface would be, and no more recording conflicts. Joeys can see everything in spite of 2 Hoppers not being integrated. Saw a few relatively unimportant software glitches that appear fixed with 204. I jumped immediately and was forced to take 2h/2j instead of 2h/1j for my three TVs, raising my bill $1 instead of down $6. (Problem is fixed for those who waited for the second week.)

Rather than trying to send the extra Joey back, I discovered that if I put it on an extra HDMI port in our main TV, that I had one click access to the other Hopper - its recordings and EHD - I don't have to wait for the Hopper integration software. One glitch that was my fault, when I used my Harmony remote I was getting unrequested recordings on the other Hopper. I had seen somewhere on this forum that the Joey didn't use IR, DOH! I checked the menus and found that IR was on by default - quick fix. After the software upgrade, I'll deactivate the extra Joey or get another TV.

I remember some of Dish's earlier releases and they were not so hot. Equipment shortages were very common. Considering the complexity of this latest system, I think they did a creditable job in getting it out. You would have to be very new to TV Service Provider business if you did not expect some problems, and some delays for updates, etc.

Should I upgrade to hopper if I only have 1 HDTV for now?

Upgrade to Hopper now or wait for bug fixes?
