 I'm thinking seriously about switching to a BUD system from Directv; the only thing is that I have no idea how much $$$ I'm looking at for a new system. Can anyone tell me roughly what I would need to spend to get hardware that can recieve HD signals? I'm in New Orleans if that matters (for dish size, etc.)

Thanks,

I'm doing the same thing. I'm getting the dish for free, and will spend about 500 bucks for a receiver and new dual (c/ku) lnb.

I'm using a 10foot mesh dish (in Mich). From what I read, you could use smaller being in La.

Incidentally, I saw a Motorola DSR-922 receiver that sold on eBay last night..and someone from New Orleans was asking about it....was that you? :)

Nope... wasn't me. I'm so new to C/Ku band gear that I wouldn't even know what I would be looking at.... ;) Thanks for the advice though. One other question is can you use different tuners for different televisions like you can with DBS or are you just pretty much limited to hooking your BUD rig to one tv?

If you are going to do full programming with C/Ku band AND you are in the market for an IRD, then you need to call NPS or SKYVISION to see if you can still participate in the $399 4DTV offers.

The bud will be best suited to one set, most people wisley hook it up to the largest screen in the house, you can keep DTV or get cable or even a good OTA antenna for locals, you will need a dish of course :) I would not go bellow a 10' I am sure if you are the type that is not shy, then when you have free time, go dish hunting in you area best place to dish hunt is in the boonies, look for a dish when you see one ask if they use it if not, then you may get one free or damn cheap, but if you find one make sure it is in good shape, no broken panels and try to get a dish with the smallest mesh holes you can find, best to bring a buddy to help dish hunt while you drive, its safe.

If you find a dish and need a pro to move it and or set it up go here:

Best place to get a 4dtv:
http://www.callnps.com/ (best deal on 4dtv and programming)
http://www.skyvision.com/ (best deal on getting both the 4dtv and HDD 200)

For parts, lnbs, feeds, arms, go here:
http://www.rpssat.com (great deals on Skypacks)
http://mechtech.satforums.com/
http://www.global-cm.net/

If you want to attemp the install yourself:
http://boresight.ripco.com/ (first link tracking made easy)
http://www.geo-orbit.org/sizepgs/tuningp2.html

I can give you tips on DVB but we will wait till you are set up first, well if you decide to, good luck!

Thanks guys! Your help will come in handy if I can convince the Mrs. that we just "have to have" this...wish me luck.
