How much is the Hopper upgrade costing you?

It is better to leave and come back...which really makes no sense. They need to treat their current customers better then their new ones.

INDEED... I'll never understand why it's ok in the cable/satellite to "punish" people for being new customers (no promo love). price your items/fees accordingly to recover costs and make them available to everyone every 2 years like cell phone plans. whoever does this first will save a fortune in support costs and face-saving PR.

Have taken credits many times for many different problems over the last 10 or 12 years. Just called to check on 1 Hopper and 2 Joeys. $100 total and 2 yr commitment.

I wonder if that explains mine, I've been a customer for almost 9 years, I've never called for any credits, upgraded last April-ish to the 922 and the CSR told me that he could give me a special promo for free if I committed for two years. I'm surprised no one has (that I have noticed) has said they are getting a free upgrade (1 Hopper 2 Joeys). So makes me wonder if the CSR had it wrong. Glad I saved the chat session.

Hopefully this helps with other people who can't figure out why they are mysteriously ineligible after years of paying their bill on time.

Erika (ID: 79S) has left the chat. mike: Good morning
James (ID: AK8): Very good morning Mike!
mike: long story short im trying to find out why my account is in bad standings and cannong get the $99 hopper deal
mike: cannot*
mike: and what I can do to fix the situation and lock into a new 2 year contract
James (ID: AK8): One moment while I check this for you.
mike: thank you
James (ID: AK8): You're welcome.
James (ID: AK8): The reason this account is not eligible as of now is because you have got many credits on the account in the past.
James (ID: AK8): There are several credits issued which made this account not eligible for a low price upgrade.
mike: i thought i was getting quality dish service, not impairing my account

James (ID: AK8): I am sorry if you feel that way.
mike: the credits were over a Logitech Revue which never worked correctly, they were offered to me by a supervisor
James (ID: AK8): To be very frank other customers are not eligible for the credits that you received on this account.
mike: can you tell how many months will i need to wait?

James (ID: AK8): I understand your concern and the account will be reviewed every month so you might be eligible in the future.
James (ID: AK8): We do not have a specific time period for that.
James (ID: AK8): It might be the very next month.
mike: So in order to receive future promotions i must say no when people offer me credits?
mike: if someone had said "this will make you ineligible for future offers" i would have said NO but that was not told to me
mike: the credits you see were for a logitech revue (google tv) which never worked correctly
James (ID: AK8): Your feedback is really appreciated and we will surely work on it.
James (ID: AK8): But as of now there is nothing we can do.

I guess we should only accept PPV certificates whenever they screw up.

Actually, the last time I was gung ho about leaving they offered me 2 (which I haven't used) so there's nothing to say that doesn't enter the equation.

Just take it as though they don't really want you as a sub and check on the competition and see what they can do. That's more or less what they're telling you and others. They gave you a few dollars of credits that decreased the thousands they made off you over all the years. :)

You know, it's bad enough that they treat loyal customers like jerks, but they can't even get their ripoff prices right. In order, this is what I've been quoted:
- 1h/2j $700
- 1h/2j $649
- 1h/2j $400
- 1h/1j $300
- 1h/1j $549

Seriously, get your acts together. If you're going to rip me off at least offer a consistent price so I can debate biting the pillow or not.

Reminds me of a line from Grosse Point Blank. "You must have done something........."

Yeah it is really sad that this is the case. I would be ok if that was stated etc...but when i called 4 months ago to upgrade they told me to wait, to hold off until the new devices came out. Now they are out and you get snubbed. It is better to leave and come back...which really makes no sense. They need to treat their current customers better then their new ones. I dont know...I am still in shock that I got hung up on....oh well...Contacting DIRT as we speak....

my problems have been well documented with their "promises" as well... luckily I was able to cancel.. I gave them till Monday to come around and make me an offer to stay as their customer.. so far they haven''t done so... please keep me posted if someone is able to do so for you..

It cost me $100 and a new two-year commitment. But, as my current account is only about 5 months in, re-upping the contract was no big deal.

I was worried they were gonna ask for hundred$ more, as I read in other threads that newer accounts wouldn't be eligible for the low-cost upgrade.

Did u start as a new customer 5months ago or were u already a customer? I ask because I am 7 months as a new customer and I was told $500 for 1H/3J because I received new equipment free 7 months ago. Makes sense but if you are the same then that is not fair.

I was a customer from '98 until approx 2002. We got a new account in my wife's name for a few years after that, in order to take advantage of whatever new customer promo was around back then. Went with Comcast and Uverse for a while. Then, got a new account with new equipment and new customer promos about 5 months ago. And, just signed a new 24 month commitment this morning with my H/J install.

Does that new 24 month commitment wipe out your previous commitment's new customer promos?

$99, Protection plan for $1/month for 6 months (Rep gave me a $5/mth credit on her own initiative when I called to add the Protection plan) and also said I would have a free install and free tech visits and free shipping for anything I need while I have the Protection Plan. Been a customer since 1996, but don't even use a ton of programming (usually only on Top 120 or its former equivalent back in the day)...so I guess my longstanding, uneventful history with them is why they waived the install fee and she offered up the deal on the Protetion Plan.

I was told $99 but I had to sign a 2 year contract with no incentives. Holding off because of the contract.

The "incentive" is you get hundreds of $$$$ in equipment for just $99 and the 2 yr contract. You folks do know this is a business and not a govt program, right?

I have the protection plan and the installation fee was $15 & $100/hopper = $215.

Depending on your customer level the install will be either $0 or $15 instead of $95

People who have been denied the promo rate that everyone else seems to have no problem getting:
Have they offered you ANY sort of explanation? Even the "dirt" on here gave me the same generic answerless response I got from a dude in India :\

Basically if your account is not currently making them any money... No low cost equip upgrade... Pretty simple
