How much is the Hopper upgrade costing you?

Record your calls or save your chat history with the dish CSR's. We were quoted at $0 for hopper and 2 joeys and when we recieved our bill we were charged $200 for the hopper and $100 for each joey. The install was done within an hour of ordering the upgrade. Now we are on the hook for $400 and the best we can do is get a $100 credit on our account. DONT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!

there is no option for zero upfront costs for existing customers. Only new customers can waive the first hopper fee by subscribing to the Top 200 or higher.

online chat is notoriously unreliable. If it were me, i'd contact the DIRT team and confirm.

.

Online chat cost me $400 for hopper upgrade wen they quoted me at$0

I have doubts. First there is no $0 fee. Second, when you signed did you read what you signed? You didn't have to "be on the hook" you had a choice to refuse or debate at that time.

I've lost all trust with DISH, so I'm perfectly happy with our equipment now. It's really had us focus on spending less time with the TV and more time with family.

You can doubt all you want but I also have a printed online chat where I was told that I was getting a 2 hopper 3 joey install with no upfront costs. I talked to Matt from Dirt on the phone after he asked me to call him about this and he told me that It was actually showing up as $200 and my order was only for 2 hoppers and 2 joeys.

I didn't fight this because I thought it was a fair price but these CSRs are flat out lying to people to get them to upgrade and I have proof. That is not right. Also I didn't get to look at any contract after my installation. My installer had it on a small smart phone that you couldn't read because the font was so small. He just zoomed in where I was supposed to sign and said sign here.

I like my new system but I don't get why you keep blaming us satguys members every time there is a problem thread and defending Dish no matter what. The fact is the people taking orders are not competent. You shouldn't have to have a conversation on the phone with a Dirt member to see what you are actually being charged after you order something.

Here is a picture of my online chat. She clearly said there would be no upfront costs because I am a valued customer. She also told me my bill would only go up $4 a month until I corrected her. It actually went up $11. The CSRs are clearly flat out lying to people during the upgrade process.

This really needs to be escalated to DISH to have them retrain their CSRs on the CORRECT information to tell customers.

you can record whatever you want, but i'd still confirm just about everything with a DIRT member. online chat is bad....

Luckily people like king3pj posted on the forums before it got out of hand like that.

Hate to break it too you...but from how I read it they are not lying. Bending the truth a little maybe. The key word is UPFRONT...meaning today. Meaning you aren't paying today to upgrade, but you will at some point in the future. The readon i know this...they did the same thing to me. When I called them on it the csr said today you pay nothing, on your next bill yor charges will be $500 for a 1H/3J setep.

those are still upfront costs.... just because the charge doesn't show up for a few days, doesn't make it any different.

I disagree with you. They still lied to me. It pissed me off but luckily I can afford it. What happens when people upgrade because the CSR says it is free and then it shows up on their bill but they don't have the $200 to cover it? No matter how you word it it is wrong that they can get away with doing business this way.

I totally agree, that is why I questioned them on it when they told me no upfront costs. After reading these forums I knew no one was getting $0 cost. The csr back peddled faster than a cat jumping in a tub of water and immediatly said I mean you pay nothing today and it all gets billed to your account payable on your next due date. I can't afford $500 so I said no thanks. But I wonder how many people have fallen in that trap and are about to get statement shock?

Especially if they are on autopay.

The ethical thing DISH can do is say no up front costs today, but it WILL be billed to your account. Say this up front so that the customer knows. Here at Satelliteguys we know of course but your average every day customer isn't going to know that.

See that's the thing. I am a pretty frequent visitor to this site but I still didn't know that's how it worked. We wanted a whole home setup but we were planning on switching to Directv to get it. Because I wasn't planning on staying with Dish I didn't do much reading in the Hopper Zone and because of this forum I knew most people would have to pay $200 for a 2 hopper system but I didn't know that it was impossible to qualify for a free upgrade.

I just figured I would jump into a quick online chat to get a price before making the switch. When they told me I could get 2 hoppers and 3 joeys for free I decided that was too good of a deal to pass up and I scheduled the install.

I came back to this thread to tell people about my great deal and that's when Sparc and others here told me I should check with Dirt because they aren't doing free upgrades. I PM'd Matt and he asked me to call him so he could better explain what was actually happening. That's also when he told me that she only signed me up for 2 Joeys when I asked for 3.

The point is it took a lot of steps to get to the point where I actually had a solid $ figure for this upgrade. Most customers would have no idea that they should confirm their prices with Dirt. Dish needs to make sure the CSRs know accurate prices if they are doing upgrades. They also need to reprimand those CSRs that do know the upgrade policy but choose to lie to get sales.

It's not lying if you believe it to be true. Some of these CSRs believe what they are telling you is true. I don't always blame the CSR because they are poorly educated on what is going on. I'm not saying this makes it better though, it's still a problem and Dish needs to get their crap together. I love Dish but they can be pretty ebarrassing on how they manage that company.
