how many receivers can I have?

I believe 3 is the AT LEAST the max. I think there may be some wiggle room. Contact a DIRT member.

The new customer promos will let you have 3 receivers, I assume that is your intention. That can be any combo of single and dual tuners. Monthly fees can be from $7 to $17 per receiver monthly depending on what you go with.

You can lease up to 3. Dishes system is setup for a max of 6.

Yup. There can be a max of 3 leased HD receivers, with a total of 6 tuners. You can add more after that, but they would need to be purchased.

Note: When I say tuner, I mean the number of TVs the receiver can support

sorry this one got away, I'm not getting any email notifications
I want to add a receiver [which we own], which is closer to the dish [new 3 months ago hd model]
what kind of switch can I use to split the signal?
a DPP 44 seems like overkill & pricey $100
my existing set up is probably 250 ft away, I have good signal, but wouldn't want to introduce too much loss

If you have HD currently, you most likely have a 1000.2 or 1000.4 dish. Both of those dishes come with an LNB that has an integrated switch supporting 3 outputs. Each output supports a dual tuner receiver. Thus if you have that setup, you don't need a switch.

the other connections are under the LB cover
I did a chat with Dish tech support, they had no idea
thanks for the help...
