Iceberg,

I got my FTA systems recently. And to be honest I chose Coolsat 5000 from your review here.
My setup is almost the same as yours except the LNB. And as my location 97W is my true south. My question is as other websites are showing that we could get many Ku band FTA channels from the motorized dish including foreign channels, all I could get is only those channels shows on the pic you have below when you set up yours pointing to 91W. Even after I did blind scan on all satellite.

http://www.satelliteguys.us/attachment.php?attachmentid=6185&d=1133806688

Is it ture that I can get many FTA channels other than those l mentioned with my equipment? if so, how can I do that?

I am really new to the FTA stuff and really would appreciate your help.

Thanks!
My setup: CoolSat 5000, Winegard 30" dish, Invacom QPH-031 LNB, SG2100 motor

The channels listed above are on the Nimiq 1 satellite at 91w

You need to point your dish to IA-5 at 97w where you will get a LOAD of FTA foreign channels.

You have to enter the details of a LIVE channel, point the dish while watching the signal quality meter. If you are indeed on the above satellite then you will have to move 6 deg. to the right from behind the dish.

You will also need a KU band LNBF, the above Nimiq 1 satellite is a DBS satellite.

Give us your zip code and we can give you the angles to point your dish to ALL the satellites!

WELCOME to the SatelliteGuys.US FTA forum!

Here is a walkthrough that may help:

Thans PSB for such quick reply. Here is some more information about my setting:
My zip code is 75098
I am using 97W as my true south and from receiver:
=============
Dish Setting:
Satellite: 97W
LNB Power: On
LNB Type: Universal
LNB Freq: 10750/11250 ( I input this myself)
22 KHZ: Auto
DiseqC Switch: Off
==============
Motorized Settting:
Satellite: 97W
Frequency: 11.751
LNB Power: On
LNB Type: Universal
LNB Freq: 10750/11250
DiseqC Motor: 1.2
Move: Stop
Limit: Disable
================

Both of the settings are pretty good with level of 97% and Quality of 79%. ( Don't know how I did it exactly, it was not very good at first in Dish Setting, after I play arround in the Motorzied setting, I got it good)

Did blind scan on 97W satellite for Free channels and got NFLSP, CBC-a, XPRS 2, CBC-A, XPRS*, BRKR, VNUS, VU, GG20 , GGENG. Scanned other satellite, got almost same channels.

Do I have to set up each satellite indiviidually? Something wrong with my dish pointing?
Totally no clue. Please use your expertise to help me out.

Sounds like the motor may not be moving. I would remove it and find and store a few satellites before adding it to the set up.......

Thanks! Nan

you're not on the right satellite. You're on 91 (Nimiq1). Need to move it west 6 degrees

set it up as such (in dish setup)

Dish Setting:
Satellite: 97W
LNB Power: On
LNB Type: Standard
LNB Freq: 10750
22 KHZ: off
DiseqC Switch: Off

You have to change the LO frequency to Standard and 10750. Also turn off the 22k. For right now I would not put in a switch and just run the line from one of the "L" outputs on the LNB to the motor.

For the motor settings, go to either transponder 12152 or 12177. Both of those are very strong and are on IA5. As PSB noted, there is a TON of channels on IA5. You have to move the dish and lock IA5 before using the motor to move to the other satellites

Thank you all for the information and help. This is great site, didn't expect it to be this good in the begining.
Any way, back to my problem. the motor is moving. so that's not the issue. Do you all mean that even though I tested the signal from my receiver by selecting 97W, its actually pointing to 91W? That's a bit confusing.
Another thing is I had no idea about the L and C output so basically I connected all four of them from the LNB to switch and then out to the motor. guess that's not right eigher.
For now I will try as Iceberg said, use one L line only and take out the switch. see if this time I can get the 97W locked. I will get back to you all on that.
Thanks again!

Once working, you only need one of the “c” outputs and one of the “l” outputs to go to the switch.

Make sure your motor is back at 0 and turn off the receiver with the switch in back when you remove/add switches. Turn unit on and make sure you set up the dish setup as I have above and you should get it to work. IA5 is your true south so that’s good : )

Just want to bring some news here regarding my FTA setup:

:) Good news is, I locked the IA5 and got more than 100 of channels, very excited. And after some research, I was even manully got CCTV channels on another satellite.

:( Bad news is as soon as I added the switch and C output from LNB, the signals goes to very week and cannot get any channels from my true south IA5. So I have to change back to no switch and only one L output.

 So here is some more questions for you experts?
What are the settings need to change which I use the switch and both L and C output from LNB?

Where I can find information on setting up for other satellites? I tried 55.5W for some indian channels like "Zee US" which listed on Lyngsat but could not get anything. Same thing when I tried other sats.

don't want to be greedy but do want to learn more about it.

C-Band (6' and bigger dish and special LNBF) signals have a 4 digit frequency.

KU-Band (30" dish and bigger) signals have a 5 digit frequency.

When using the Linear side of the QPH-031 the L.O. setting should be 10750

When using the Circular side of the QPH-031 the L.O. should be 11250.

Got the Ku band and C band thing. But what about the L and C LNB output? whats why mine would work perfectly with Single L output to motor but not when adding C output and connect both to switch then motor?
Also when I set up for each satellite, how should I define the frequency on dish setting? always 10750 for single LNB? sometimes I see better signal level with 5150 which is one of the defalut LO Freq preset in the receiver.

First, remember signal level doesn't mean so much. What you want is good quality level. The L output is for linear ku signals, which are mostly used in the lower powered bandwidths. The LO should be set at 10750 on the L outpput. And the C outputs are for Circular ku signals found on the higher powered bandwidths, such as the DBS birds. The LO should be set at 11250 on the C output.

Al

DBS satellites such as Nimiq 2, 1/3, and the Echostars (except for Echo 9) all use (C)ircular polarity, thus you want to use the C output from your LNB and set those satellites up using a L.O. of 11250. There isn't much in-the-clear programming on those satellites, with the exception of 91w (Nimiq 1/3), which as plenty of free radio, and Echo 7 at 119w, which also has plenty of free radio and NASA. Most other FTA satellites are (L)inear, so you would connect the L output from the LNB and use a L.O. of 10750.

Remember to set up DiSEqC in your receiver to switch between whatever ports on your switch your C and L outputs are connected to.
