Bob, asking Dish Subs about how to stop something Dish is doing is like asking a cop not to own a badge. They won't give it up. These are Dish Network Supporters. You might be better off asking the same question in your Cable Company's Thread.

The details are foggy:( but that extra receiver fee did get jacked up draatically.

Dish had discounted X dollars for phone line connection, then a DVR fee per box if I remember correctly.

Yea they're REALLY foggy (for you)...because you don't even know who/what you're quoting - geeze!
If you re-read, I was ONLY correcting mfoster's (incorrect) statement about the Hopper's (NOT) ever being $17; I never said anything about ANY other model receivers - of which there ARE some models that have an A/O charge of $17, of course.

When did the receiver fee ever jump from $5 to $17? The only time you have a $17 charge is if you have a second hopper.
2010 was the year. If you had a second 622/722/722k on your account , your charge went from $6.00 for hd receiver to $17.00 over night. It was an outrageous charge that lead to many DISH defections. It was the start in many charges that DISH charged like the tv 2 connection fee for $5.00 , the dvr fee per dvr and the additional receiver fee all being rolled up into new additional receiver fees. Also different classes of receivers were charged depending on which one you had. All this when it used to just cost you $5.00 for a second SD receiver and $6.00 for an additional hd receiver. This was the year we had a price freeze on programming prices and all equipment fees were jacked up over night.

I had two 722 receivers and a 622 receiver. I had to trade in all of my receivers and got 211ks and a 722k instead. A lot of trouble to keep my prices down to $7.00 for an additional receiver on the 211k. I also had to pay $40.00 to turn my 211ks into dvrs and supply my own external hard drives. I was really pissed off since this isn't the only time DISH has shaken up the equipment fees and changed packs to eliminate the perks in subscribing to them. AEP used to eliminated the extra dvr fees on your dvrs if you subbed to it. They did away with that too in the past. I would never sub to AEP now ,since it is extremely high and only going higher. A lot of churn resulted from these changes . Incidentally DISH has stayed stuck either just under 14 million or slightly over 14 million subs since this huge change in policy. They seem to be gaining and losing the same few thousand subs over and over . But of course many subs now know how to play the game and they churn to the competition and then come back to DISH as a new sub and back and forth to get the best deals. But it is changes like DISH made in 2010 that discourage loyalty to them. So now it is every man or company for itself.

I recall when the price increase for the second VIP 722 jumped to $17. That's when I dropped having two DVR receivers. Seems like it was before 2010 though, because I had a tree hit by lighting in the late summer of 09 and had to replace ONLY ONE 722 because the modem got fried.

And considering the pay TV industry has been losing subs steadily since 2010, the "policy" doesn't seem to be hurting them as much as you would like to believe.

Ahh last I checked direct has continued to grow:)

The changes E made certinally increased profits, but hurt them big time. All thanks to charlies turning over management to the suits.

I will send the DIRT team member a PM as soon as I figure out how to do it:) This thread made me realize that although I respond to PMs I dont believe I ever sent one:(

I am a busy fellow what with our family getting larger by 4 people for the last month....... and none of them drive.....

BUSY BUSY BUSY IS MY JOB DESCRIPTION:(

DIRT feel free to e mail me at hallerb@aol.com

You can have a nice bon fire with the junk mail you get.

In our community outdoor fires arent allowed. Neighbors son had a small campfire and got a ticket from police, and he was using a fire ring. Its not a safety issue neighbors complain about everything:(

Lets debunk any talk of Direct TV growing in the U.S. In fact they have been losing a little more than expected and blamed some of it on ..... wait for it ..... wait for it.... more competition from DISH. And in the third quarter even overall not just in the U.S. they lost total subs.

Given how many subs in the industry have been lost Direct is still doing ok as is DISH. But it's not true Direct continues to grow.

Junk mail is just a daily thing. It doesn't matter if it's Dish, DirecTV, the cable company or any other business sending out direct mail. That is just what mail is now. Do what I do, have your recycling bin near your mail box. When I get home I open the mail box and separate the junk mail from the good mail and through the junk straight into the recycling bin.

So true, since I left in August I get an offer to return at least every other day. Save on mailing and reduce your costs or better pass on your savings to your customers....Yeah, I couldn't keep a straight face when I wrote that either.

Why does it bother Rose? Is she afraid Jen is going to try to get you back because she still gets junk mail at her house? Im certain Jen is moved on and happy to be rid of you. Rose could use a bit of growing up as well if she is jealous over junk mail!
Hi This Rose- I am only irritated because it bothers Bob! I could honestly care less about the mail or to whom it is addressed. He is truly embarrassing when representatives come to our house he answers the door then screams, shouts, lets it all out. Any public place like trade shows he moans, groans, and gets loud. I have tried to pull him away, but he pouts like a temper tantrumed two year old. Bob, in addition to having four dogs, has a lot of Pet Peeves; Dish and Home Depot are among them.
Occasionally I DO wish Jen would take him back. As you see here, he CAN BE AN IRRITANT, but sometimes it's like sand in an oyster, and you get a pearl. Jen also moved on, but apparently she's not operating on full powers, because her NEXT man is named Bob, too! Many of you guys have said, "Get A Life," and I've said it right back- but please give ME a break. When he is on the computer harrassing YOU, he is quiet and not bothering ME. Nobody else on this forum is LIVING with HIM. In the holiday spirit of giving, cut me some slack, and let him ramble on. Thanks, SINCERELY the beleagured Rose.

Maybe get him a trash can for Christmas that he can situate near the mail box to get rid off all his irritants immediately. Perhaps not having to bring it into the house will cheer him up.

That is the most interesting post I have read in a long time.

Rose, Thanks for posting that! I have been reading Bob's posts on the satellite forums for about 18 years now, and I know exactly what you are talking about! When Bob thinks he has been wronged, get out the ear plugs! You gave me a good laugh!
