How can I trade out a Sammy 360 for an HTL-HD?

Hey everyone,

I have a quick question that hopefully someone can help with. Last week, I upgraded to the HD system via DirecTV customer retention. They upgraded me to the triple-LNB dish and the installer brought me a Sammy 360 HD receiver. Problem is, it's terrible at picking up and holding a signal on my local OTA digital channels. I'm in a major metropolitan area (Atlanta), approximately 10-12 miles from all of the broadcast towers. What I'm seeing is mostly a black screen with a "no signal" message, mixed with constant pixellation dropouts. The built-in signal meter jumps randomly between 0%, 45%, and 70%. Topography really shouldn't be an issue where I am located.

So, with all that said, is this a problem with the box? If so, what is the best way to convince DirecTV to switch it out with a Hughes HTL-HD, not another 360? Has anyone convinced D* to take back the "old" box and allow a credit to purchase a different model?

If it makes a difference, I do subscribe to their monthly equipment protection plan. Please let me know if I can provide more information. I'm pretty new to all of this.

Thanks,
adam

I would make sure you have the current rev of the software first, then look at your antenna and cabling. My buddy has the 360 and his channels tune as well as mine do and we are 42.5mi from our towers.

Hey Nhlfan79, I for one don't really like the 360 but thats just me I had 1 at one time and I just called them and told them the truth ( D that is) that I didn't like it and to send me something else and I have a HTL and I love it I to live close to Atlanta about 35 to 45 mile from the towers and I get all of the OTA . Here is a link about the Samsung 360 its 80 pages of , well you will see I don't know if they ever released a S/W or F/W to fix the OTAM or not but if they did it will be in this thread I have keep up with it up to page 60 and never remember reading that they did . http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=364689&highlight=360
