Hopper and Tailgater News

Does this mean you can add a 211 to your Hopper account even in the absence of a Tailgater?

From the little info we seem to have, hard to tell. Will they use the same qualifications as for RV distants?

That's how I took it. I plan on trying it sometime in the next couple weeks. I didn't see anything that said a tailgater was required and they have let people bring receivers camping with them for a long time regardless of the dish. I don't don't see why this would be any different.

Not sure how Scott meant this;
"However, since only a purchased ViP 211/k receiver may be used with a Tailgater on a customer account that also has a Hopper, there will be no applicable Equipment Discount for the purchased ViP 211/k receiver."

"Equipment Discount" is the amount that Dish reimburses a retailer for equipment installed for a customer. This paragraph is informing retailers of the fact that, unlike all of the Hopper equipment on the customers account, because the customer pays the retailer for the 211, Dish will not reimberse the retailer for the 211.

I thought real men tailgate with C-band dishes? :D

I was also wondering about being able to get distant networks from Dish for the 211k when using the tailgater. I kind of doubt it since it would be on the same account as the subscribers H/J.

It is a great solution for the tailgater problem. One 211k on your account is $7/month, the same price as a joey. Now you can take your Dish service camping. You get one, it is single tuner, it makes it fairly undesireable to do account stacking. It is a good compromise.

If you register your RV to get DNS, then your account becomes an RV Account and you no longer will get Locals.

I don't think it's that easy of an answer. We are talking about a Hopper account, with now a legally added VIP receiver for the RV. Will have to see how Dish handles a request for DNS for the 211K. I wonder if once you get qualified for DNS you would need to call each time you want it turned on, thus turning off your locals for the whole account,and would they then only authorize the 211K? Dish has to avoid DNS in the home, and account stacking.

The 211 loses authorization after several days, if not hooked up. You then have to call Dish CSR to get it reauthorized. I have a cable from my home setup to my camper, so when I am at home I hook up the camper 211 to the home dish, so it will not lose authorization. I do not have a tailgater. I use a Wingard Carry Out automatic dish.

I am assuming that's not on a hopper account? I believe all receivers need to be reauthorized after several days of no power.
When you had to have a separate account DNS wasn't an issue. But now I'm thinking Dish will want to avoid both the DNS service and the locals on one account.

Are they not doing this yet? My brother called today about installing a hopper/joey and getting a 211. They told him that they could not add a 211 to a hopper account and would have to get a seperate one. Told him to get on here and contact dirt member. Anyone succesfully do it yet.

If it is like everything else involved with a RV, you probably have to get pass the first line CSR and get to the RV specialists.

True I told him to call another CSR because a lot of them don't keep up on the changes. The said thing is that we have family that works for Dish and still the clueless.

Now, I am really confused. I have just bought a 211 and a Tailgater. I am not a Dish customer, so must choose how I want to sign up with Dish. My first choice would be to get an account and free Hopper that I can also use in my home if I decide to cancel Comcast. Is it possible to use the Tailgater, 211 and Hopper for the home? I also have (as of next Thursday) a travel trailer, that being the reason for the Tailgater. Once I sign up with Dish, then I am not able to get any special deals later.
