I was the techs and he said maybe the first person here in Cincinnati to get the Hopper 3 yesterday morning. Love the new remote and new ui. Here is my issue. On every channel and vod, the HD quality is horrible. I messed with me picture calibration a million times and got it looking reasonable, but compares to almost DVD quality. I am a techy and work in IT so yes I have made sure it is set to 4k,1080p, 1080i and tired others. Also the 4k Joey is the same on my other TV. Something just isnt right. I'm beginning to think there is something weird if you don't actually have a 4k set yet. Anybody have any insight?

Mine looks GREAT!
do you have a 4k TV? I had issues with the Hopper 2 as well but not this much. I have had bell fioptics and time Warner with these TV's. Fioptics looked like blu ray quality almost and Warner was actually pretty good as well. This is why I'm so frustrated because I know it isn't my tv's

Sony 4K and non 4K TV's here all look GREAT.

I have a Samsung 55", a VIZIO 43" and a Sony 40" and the HD picture looks great on all three.
well this just doesn't make sense then. I did see a few others saying the picture was crappy in other posts but started this because I didn't see one specific to it.

I think the picture quality on Hopper 3 is the same as Hopper 2. A little soft with some macroblocking, not bad, but not like Netflix sharp. Setting my Samsung on movie mode provides the most help. Some channels are better than other as well. FX is terrible but CNN is better, PBS looks great.

Might have been asked in a different thread but does anybody know what the current software version is for the Hopper 3. My Hopper 3 is running U301.
that is what mine is running and I think the newest out right now. In response to others saying the picture looks great. I think vod look quite a bit better. I have my tv's looking ok. I feel like up close looks better as opposed to scenes that are further away. I think it looks darker and kinda washed out during those parts of the program.

Just curious as to what types of HDMI cables people are using going from Hopper3 to home theater systems to the there 4K TV.
I do not have a 4k set, but I think in a technical standpoint I believe the Hdmi cable has to be version 2.0 + to match the 4k port

I noticed you didn't mention so I apologize for asking if it has been done but did you try the "TV Adjust" on the TV settings page and make sure the circles are properly inside the frame? My picture was rough until I did that. I actually had to show the installer how to do that because two of his first 3 installs complained of the picture.

When you say it looks great, does it look much better than the Hopper w/Sling that it replaced?

I think it's the same. I think that the new UI makes it look better or perceived to look better. A lot of people thought the Hopper with Sling looked better over the original Hopper. And the original Hopper looked better over a 722. They are all outputting the same resolution.

Smart pack vs flex pack

OTA Adapter and original hopper with new interface.
