Hooper Is Warm? Google TV any Good??

Hi New to Forum but not new to satellite use. I just had DISH install their sevice 3 days ago and went with a Hooper and a Joey for the bedroom.
The next day NO Dish signal(015 screen) I went thru all the tips from on line C/S so I and to fuss to get them back out the next day and not wait 3 days like the internet C/S had us set up for. I had to call C/S and finally had to ask for my money back then I was told a tech would be here tomorrow. True to their word a different Tech came out and changed everything The first Hooper after several hours was Much hotter then my 7.1 120X7 receiver amps get. I will keep checking this second Hooper and see how Hot the right side gets as my first one fried. It's been on all day and it is not very warm at all compaired to the first one. The Hooper has a lot of cool features my old Dierct TV receiver did not have. Time will tell if ths Hooper is a good design as I am retired this year and my HT system is On all day everyday.

Has anyone purchased the Google TV device to use your flatt screen for the PC????

First Welcome Aboard! The Hopper Rocks and glad they were able to get you another one.. Hope things go well for you and no I have never messed with Google TV but I'm sure someone on here as tried one..

This is not correct. I have a google tv working with a Hopper. It works just fine. The only caveat is that advanced integration is not available (that is only available on the 722/722K). But, I never thought the added integration was worth the additional $4/month fee anyway.

Integration is available for the 612 as well. Don't remember about the 622. I too never spent the $4/mo.

Just connect the Revue to a different input on the tv. I have mine on a separate input. There is no integration, but I only really use it for HBOGO and youtube. No monthly fee.

I have a Sony soon-to-be-released Google TV box. It's connected post-Hopper and works, but again, no advanced integration.

I don't think we would have paid for advanced integration anyway.

There are a couple of issues, namely that Google TV has some channel listings done incorrectly in the "TV & Movies" app (so you select something on Channel Blah, it thinks Blah is on channel 500 when it's actually on channel 700 and takes you to the wrong one).

Also I wish the TV & Movies would show shows and movies that are going to begin soon, not just what's playing this second.

But in terms of apps and web, no problem so far.

I use my hopper with the google revue unit and I even labeled the receiver the DISH Hopper 2000 and it accepted it and it works with it. I use a Joey with the google revue unit in my bedroom and it works with it too. I was surprised that the revue units would accept Joey and Hopper and work with them ,but they do. The only thing I miss from using integration with my 722k was video art on my external hard drive movies. I get that now with the hopper itself, so I don't even miss that .

722/722K ?? Explain advanced integration please. If I purchasethis Google TV device from DISH and have then intall it can I use my wireless keyboard and use my 55" flatt screen for my PC monitor? I am new to this and I have had the Hoopper and Dish for a few days now. Thanks for the info from everyone.

The google revue unit is a set top box that you feed the hdmi from your hopper to it and from the google revue unit to your a/v receiver or your tv by hdmi. It doesn't come with it's own screen. It is a user interface for other applications in it like Netflix , crackle etc. It does come with a wireless keyboard and you can control your tv and a/v receiver with it as well as your sat receiver. I have mine set fro 1080p and it upconverts all shows to 1080p.

I got my second revue from Amazon.com for $79.99 and I use it primarily for Netflix & HBOGo and to upconvert my sat receiver to 1080p. I don't think that they are even making them anymore. I bought my first unit at Best buy for the full price of $259.99 ,but that was when it first came out two or three years ago. It was my first unit for internet access for applications like Netflix. But you can't use it for DISH Online ,even though this unit can be paired with the 722k for full integration. It can be used with a stand alone slingbox in another room for hd video from your sat receiver. Let me explain: I had my 722k with a stand along sling pro hd box and in my bedroom I had the second google revue unit hooked to my bedroom hd tv. I go on the revue unit and select sling player and it would bring up the hd picture from my 722k -but it was only tv one, not tv 2. It kind of worked, but I see now why DISH didn't release the sling extender that they said they would a couple of years ago. Often the picture would freeze and you would have to start all over again starting the slingplayer over. It was not reliable.

In the end you can get many applications that the google revue unit has on blu-ray players , roku boxes, etc. It is kind of cool to be able to search for something about an actor or a movie or series ,while you are watching tv. You know : what is Lynda Carter doing this days? What does she look like today? But the hardest part for you would be to still find one. I think DISH still sells them on their store, and I know that Dishdepot.com has them,but they are selling them at a higher price than $79.99. But know that the google revue unit is not being sold or further developed as it is. I like mine , but I would let price be your final guide on whether to pay for one or not.

I thought it would allow me to use my PC to surf ebay etc and use my 55" flatt screen as a monitor. I can acess Netflix from my wireless Bluray player.
The DISH Tech that installed my Hooper Monday told me I could use my PC with and my TV was my monitor. He said DISH had them for about $100.00 and to ask DISH to have a Tech install it so it would work correctly. I have a lot to lean about this.
