I just spoke to one of the higher-ups at Skyvision, and received this report:
This news was released only last Friday, so they have not really had sufficient time to address all details yet. Both Skyvision and Satellite Receivers Ltd will be conducting tests in a very short time to confirm what sized antenna will be sufficient to use for C-band reception across the U.S. Those that have purchased DSR-410 receivers should not give up---it is my understanding that those receivers can be re-mapped for reception on C band / AMC-18 from 105 West. You will have to install a C-band antenna, and as I said, testing is planned to see how small will still be reliable.

I personally see this whole development as a good thing. While unfortunate for anyone that cannot use a C-band antenna, the combining of all HITS signals to one place in the sky presents a great opportunity to revitalize the former C-band industry as an alternative to the small dish DBS systems. More channels in one location...no need for a motor drive...a true alternative to DBS with better picture quality. Very few if any problems with rain fade common to Ku-band. A way to re-energize existing neglected BUD antennas (there have got to be a lot of G-5 systems doing nothing out there).
Details need to be worked out about transmission format compatibility, but the end result should be a great improvement in the number of channels that X4 Ku-band subscribers are presently getting. Wasn't that one of the complaints from some of the critics of the X4 programming packages? With just about every cable channel available in one place, it should be an non-issue. Give things a few weeks to work themselves out...simulcasting should begin shortly, and the existing Ku-band signals on X4 should continue until June.

I just called Skyvision. The product rep claimed to have no idea what I was talking about. Time will tell. It will be interesting to see what comes of this.

I talked to them too a client of mine wanted one of these systems within the next month. I told him the other day I would find out whats up. Skyvision told me thats not happening till May. They had no other input :(

Looks like C band only to me.

Im all for c band Mike. I hope that they add some other of the HITS channels to a mux that the 4D can get, that are only in combo mode now :)

some real good information there Mike

even at C-band though if they cram a bunch of channels on one transponder won't it look like mush?

so true. Havent lost reception even in a pouring rain

we had one of them...until the lake shore eroded away and tok the dish with it :(

I would but I don't have access to WUT. Id like to become a member what do you have to do to become one?
I'll explain it later. Not enough time right now :)

I wonder if the mods notice those of us that would like access
there are only a couple mods who can make that decison ;)

I would like to thank Mike Kohl for getting the answers for us. I was worried since I just installed my Dad's DSR410 yesterday. If I can help with any testing on C band with these let me know. I have a spare 6' Fortec dish that needs a reason to be setup again.:)

Hits currently uses up to 12 services per mux. Even though there are 12 they still look better than the G3 NPS muxes. One thing most of us forget is HITS is feeding to cable companies so there not being as bandwidth stingy as NPS, Direct or Dish. It's sort of like a second generation master. I have compared the true masters to HITS. They lack a bit of depth & definition and have a bit of artifacts but look pretty good overall.

I've been studying lately how all this digital encoding etc works especially digicipher. It's really interesting.

Here's a good link:

Thanks for getting us the info.
I knew you or one of our other industry-connections would come through.

If this had come up at CES, I'd bet it would have been one of the lead stories.
It's certainly got my attention!

Nps Update 1/22

NPS UPDATE for AMC 18

We got an update from ACC this morning. They are working with HITS to get amc-18 mapped into the 4dtv receiver
and they will be working closely with HITS to make the transistion from ku-band to c-band seamless

From what I understand all the X4 hits channels are suppose to be available to us on c band. Now if they add some other HITS stuff that will be the bomb:)

I wonder what minimum size dish will work well with it? (2 degree spacing) I have a client in limbo that I was going to install a X4 setup for next month. He may be able to put up a small c band dish but not sure. Right now He's thinking of going with Ku G10 DVB instead.

Skyvision has removed the DSR-410 from their website. If you search though you can find it still they just removed the link to it and not the page itself.

hopefully 6 footer will work fine :)

Im sure a 6 foot will have the gain but the 2 degree spacing issue may cause alot of errors and kill quality. If you ever want to do a test Ice with your 6 foot and sidecar let us know the results. :)

I know this fall I was able to get the free stuff on G11 real strong (+6.0 or so). The G3 mux was low (+4) but stable

The nets on AMC1 were strong but scrambled (obviously)

I dont remember what else I picked up at the time
