interesting......since the C-Band providers can offer a package off of the HITS system I wonder what will happen?

They have been migrating quite a few of the X4 channels to C band lately. I did some testing and they work on the 4D if you have a sub. I don't want to go into further details in an open forum though.

Well, so much for the Skyvision DSR-410 solution...I feel sorry for those who shelled out the money for that receiver only to have the programming shut down in a few months.

I wonder if they plan to keep them at 19.51 or switch to 29.27 combo mode like all their other signals on AMC 1, AMC 4 and AMC 18? If they do, the channels won't be available on 4dtv anymore.

According to SRL I spoke to them on the phone. They said there just moving to a new satellite. They were kind of wondering how I even knew about this since they just got told this 2 days ago.

The 410 would work on C band but those without a big dish would be out of luck. Right now the migration works on c band's new HITS feeds, there using 19510 3/4.

Remember those HITS feeds are being passed through the local cable plant direct to peoples homes in some cases. I think the set top converters only do 19510 3/4.

I'm hoping they will add more to the 19510 3/4 mode on the new satellite so that we can get more services than what we have now on X4.

That would be cool... There using 10 transponders on the C band bird for SD & 2 for HD right now. One other transponder is active for DVB at this point so it leaves them lots of room.

But they are ending direct to home, so there will be no reason to keep 19.51, unless NPS and SRL have worked out some deal with Comcast Media Center.

My BLSA currently shows five 29.27 combo mode HD muxes, six 19.51 muxes, and two DVB signals on AMC 18.

They plan to consolidate all their signals on AMC 4, AMC 1 and AMC 18. Cable companies would be able to use one dish to receive all three satellites. Switching all their signals to 29.27 combo mode would be the most efficient use of bandwidth. Unfortunately, that's what I think they will eventually do.

I guess it all depends on what HITS is willing to do with the symbol rates. Like I said before I know they can pass the satellite signal directly through the cable plants to cable customers set top boxes via cable not satellite without decoding and re encoding the muxes. Im not quite sure but I think the Motorola STB's only do 19510 3/4. If thats the case we could have some hope. Even though 29270 combo would be the best use of bandwidth.

They may add feeds to this satellite since migration started only days ago from what I heard. So we will have to keep an eye on it.

I would think they have to honor existing contracts with SRL, NPS and all the cable companies that are using HITS to some degree. Only time will tell the outcome of what will really happen.

Are you saying that someone with the Skyvision subscription could, right now, hook their DSR-410 up to a C-Band dish, point it to the right satellite, and get their programming?

Comcast is pulling it's X4 Hits feeds this summer. They are moving to C band. Wonder how that will effect the DSR 410's from Skyvision?

I know one of the possible reasons to move would be the upcoming of Cycle 24..which is suppose to be more intense than previous cycles..delivery of satellite signals in max. solar activity is more reliable on C-Band than Ku..so,they won't be the only service to move to C-Band..Myself and lot of my other Ham Radio friends are excited and getting ready for this cycle..should be fun..and for you Ku band only folks out there, best get a C-Band dish..10ft. or larger!!

Probably not with a 410 since it has been mapped for X4 it would need new channel maps for c band. The 4DTV's have hidden features that the 410 don't. With a 4DTV... yes :) been there done it.

Now that I think about it, HITS also has channels on Galaxy 15 and AMC 10...so I would think by the way the article reads, that they are moving these services from G15 and AMC 10 to AMC 18 as well.

I just hope NPS/SRL has something worked out to make them stay 4dtv compatible because if they don't then that would probably end cband other than the premium movie channels that are available, I can do without HITS personally because I usually only sub to Denver 8 and All the premiums. That's just my opinion, but I do have to say, the HITS feeds are much better quality than Dish Network/Direct TV...oh and I do sub to CMT Pure Country as well...so that is the only HITS channel I am worried about.

NPS official update

This is from the net

"The channels will be moving from Ku-band X4 to Amc-18 c-band. We will continue to use the hits services on amc-18. It will be easier for all those customers that do not have ku-band, or do not want to pay for the upgrade. All the channels will just be available in c-band."
