Ya need to put the thingamajig in the doohickie, and turn it counterclockwise to make it work.
I had the same problem with mine, last year. -

Well, part of the problem with newbies is that they don't know what to ask.
And heaven help them if they try to do a search.
Ya gotta know the key words.
And if you don't know what anything is called, the search engine won't do any good.

But what does amaze me is that people buy stuff without knowing much of anything about it.
Personally, I'd get some of the basics down before making a purchase.
For instance, today someone posted a hacker-related question about a particular receiver they'd just bought.
Best I could tell, that receiver hadn't had any support for 6+ months,....
... so I guess they'll -have- to become legit FTAers! -

lol......... Reminds me of one of my dish customers called me last night at 9:30 pm. He said he just got a RA receiver in the mail and after downloading it there is a message that sais "Press record on remote #2"...... He asked me what he was suppose to do?. ........I'm gonna change my cell number

I think that a lot of newcomers to FTA don't realize that it is not an alternative to Dish or DirecTV (or cable) if you are looking for premium programming, and many of them think it is "consumer-friendly", which it is not. It is a hobbyist-oriented, heavily technical method of receiving satellite signals which are usually not meant for home users. My neighbor is always asking why there are so many dishes and so much equipment (switches, LNBs, cables, etc.), not understanding that this is not just a simple setup to receive TV like his DirecTV is.

The DirecTV slimline will not work for FTA. You will need a 30 inch (or larger) dish with a linear Ku-Band LNBF (Slimline uses Ka-Band and circular DBS LNBFs). Check out some of this sites sponsor vendors (Sadoun and SatelliteAV) for good FTA dish/receiver packages.

This is a GREAT site Kimberybrian! I just recently got ahold of a pansat 2700A and just by reading through the forums here was able to pick up Galaxy 10 at 123W and watch a little TV I think the best way to help you at this point is to tell you READ and READ some more! I am betting that the answer to every question you might have at this point is here, use the search feature on the site and READ, if you have a question about something you have read, by all means ask. The people here seem very knowlegable and eager to help! Thanks to all here for a great site! I have alot to learn myslelf but look forward to it!

Yep the slimline is too small and the LNB's wont work for free to air. Best to get a 30" dish and a KU LNB.

Absolutely true! My neighbors think I am some kind of nut for having two C-band dishes and one 75cm dish. He always says "you really need all those dishes?" LOL
