Hi, does anyone know about these folks?

I'd stay far far away from them. They do have a website (ftaworldcorp.com). Their website only has Dish Network dishes and lnbfs. I wonder why? They sell receivers with dongles and i-hubs. Doesn't sound like true FTA to me.

Just what the heck is a dongle anyway? I have heard that term, but I have never seen one. What is it, really? It sounds more like something from a shop in a back alley in a sleezy part of town! LOL They might even want to hide it even in the worst of neighborhoods, just by virtue of its name!

When I first heard the term DONGLE I had forgotten about legit dongles used for token access controls on networks and stuff like that. When it was brought up with me I thought of.....I thought of.......well....poo. :D

As it turns out a DONGLE when you see them advertised with a "questionable" FTA receiver is nothing more than a device that hooks into the STB serial port and has an ethernet connection. They then use them to get pirate keys combined with modified STB software. So in my opinon that means my first impression of what a DONGLE was is correct.

If you see satellite software for DONGLE or sites marketing a DONGLE for satellite use it is illegal and has no place in legit True FTA.

I agree, marketing a dongle product along with primarily offering circular LNBFs and 18" dishes in packages with FTA receivers is a red flag indicating the intent of the reseller.

One must be careful as tagging product only as a hack device or illegal just because it has features that could be used to promote theft of service. Using a RS232 / USB dongle on a FTA receiver is a perfect example of a legitimate product utilized for theft of services. There is often no difference between using a receiver with a built-in modem, ethernet port or adding a dongle. They just facilitate data communications. This technology could be used by hobbyists to view or transport programming to other devices via LAN, share channel lists, download EPG data, custom GUI / OSD, etc.

We have explored distributing EPG for FTA channels via a web service using RJ45 port or a dongle for legacy receivers. There is great potential for additional communication methods for receivers!

Hobbyists should request manufactures to provide support for legitimate features and work with their R&D or independently explore (hack) the abilities of this hardware to provide new features for the hobbyist community rather than brand items as valid only for theft of service.

Sure, it is nice to get a nice shiny electronic device that works perfectly and does everything as advertised, but I grew up with Radio Shack "65 in 1" and "100 in 1" kits. Have you ever hooked your STB RS232 serial port to a PC? Watched the results with Hyper Terminal? Sent a key stroke and received a response? View the hand shake and data exchange between the STB and a channel loader program?

There is much more out there for a "True" FTA hobbyist!

Ok so maybe the place is legit but I still think using the pictures of the girls in those "outfits" is sexist. The one is the school girl outfit? Good thing the photo was taken from the side and not from behind else it would have been X-rated!

I think you could do something to improve your image by replacing those sexist pictures with something more related to the satellite business and not the sex industry. I mean really, they look like porno stars.

That's MY opinion..

Sexist or Sexy? Whats next changing the name of Satellite Guys to Satellite People?

And look at their logo.
Hey, look at this!

That is so demeaning to women.
Don't look at this. It's wrong.

Give me a break. I showed the site to my fiance and she thought the photo was hilarious. If your dad wants to look at scantily clad women he can find more explicit stuff on the net easily on pages uncluttered by satellite products. If you don't think people should be looking at it don't tell people to go look at it. I never would have seen that site if you hadn't mentioned it.

Thank you. It gave me a good belly laugh.
