help with setup dishnet 118.8 dish in Canada

OK, did the shopping;

33 oval aftermarket dish with single lnb $48; will connect to port 2 on DP34 instead of DN circular LNB, other 2 will leave connected to 500+ sat 110 and 119 if this won't work - harakiri;

Someone in other forum said that card might be needed to reset - this receiver 311 does not have a card, i powered off/on, however can not do factory reset or can?

- can not be faulty receiver as 2 sattelites are working,
- switch should be OK too - tested on different ports, it works
- tried connecting without switch - no gain in signal strengh, 110 about 50, 119 - 35 signal srengh on tv, should be double
- called some DN dealers in Buffalo, Detroit - they sell same size dishes for - international channels (500+, 30 inch) for northeast USA which should be the same as Toronto

However, when connected to old dish 500 (smaller one, 20 + inch) with 21 switch got only 110 but with much stronger signal, approx. 75 compare to 50 on 500+;

so where is the dog burried?

Any thoughts???

Time to start posting pictures, too many words/posts and no result. :(

yes i am getting lots of channels e.g from about 80 to 300, 170-180 kids, 200's - news;
weather, LMN etc and some in 8000 range but do not remember those

oh ok....just wanted to make sure since you mentioned there was no card. So on the newest receivers they embedded the new card which is cool :)

What I'm noticing is you mention on 119 you only have a 35 signal. That is probably the issue as to why 118 isnt coming in. It is a lower powered satellite than 119. You need to get a higher signal on 119 first

yes, from about 80 to 300, LMN, 170's for kids, 200, s news, weather and some in 8000 range.

Locals from 2 are in the subscription, but i am only getting quide but no channel just info panel from DN

you might be too far out of the spotbeam depending on which "locals" you have

unless its Buffalo, you're probably outside of the spotbeam

so could that be that internationals are assigned to florida spotbeam, that is why i am not getting them!!!

no. The only thing "assigned" to a spotbeam are locals

Since you mentioned FLorida, you wont get any of the US Networks them since you are too far outside of the spotbeam

All other programming is on a CONUS (CONtinental US) beam so dont worry about that. Go back to what I posted about the signal strength on 119

:angel: Eureka!!! :)

Finally got it working; will tell you how I fixed it

took antenna apart, hit it several times with the fist wrapped in towel from inside where it looked slightly warped, installed back and voila! 118 is there, weak signal, one channel was working. Reinstalled on the side of the house with side legs supporting the mast and signal got even better, got all channels.

So physical dish defect caused all that grief, also first I was installing it on old dish 500 leg, that is a little weaker, even now when I press on the dish on long sides, the signal goes up, even to 45 meaning that the dish got flattened, now I get 35 on the meter, 28 on the receiver, still low but channels are working, will buy new plate in the future, this one got squished to much in the package but hardly visible.

Anyway, thanks all of you , especially Smith and Iceberg for help and input which slowly lead me to the conclusion that there has to be something with the dish or receiver. As you said, as soon as I got stronger signal, 118 came in.
I learned a lot. I can point 500+ in couple minutes without compas, was on the roof at least 50 times. lol

Next project, there is one free channell on AMC4 that i would like to watch,

Could you give me suggestions on equipment (dish, size, receiver)

You guys rock!!! :up

I hadnt aimed a D500+ but I knew the 118 is lower signal so you really needed to max 119 signal out first. Sounds like you got it
