help with setup dishnet 118.8 dish in Canada

I didnt know Pete was back with his "following me around" crap :rolleyes:

To the OP I'll help ya out. When you got the receiver, was it brand new? I wonder what software version is in it? Press the "info" button on the remote (or do menu 6-1-3). It should say "software" and then a number. Current is 4.38
If its anything less than that you'll need the receiver to update the software. Best thing to do is lock 119 first. The signal should be much higher than 30. Then run a check switch and it will show 119 only. Turn off receiver and let it download the newest software.

So when you hooked up 119 it works? What switch do you have? You mentioned a D500+ but didnt mention the switch. Its possible you have the wrong switch (possibly)

Also, if you have a little TV available taking the receiver and TV to the roof is much easier ;)

hi again;

I hooked up my receiver to old dish 500 with 21 switch and got just 110 but signal much stronger almost double.

Reconnected my new 500 plus but the same problem, no signal on 118, verified software level on receiver, did check switch with no cable to clear matrix on receiver, switched ports on the switch - no change weak signal on 119 - 35 on accutrac meter - better on 110 - 50, and no 118

my new switch is dp34,

so I might have bad switch or lnb? how to check it? my local sat store does not take returns. What if it is something else like spotbeaming?

Do I need 40 or 50 inch dish in Canada?

wojac - got any answers yet ?

Better post then info then ask someone else. System Info screen snapshot would be enough, if the particular number hard to find :).

Back to 118.75W - I would do that by pointing to 119W first; just one coax from DSS output of the LNBF to a receiver - get max signal on say tp19; then switch the cable to FSS output on the big combo LNBF, change sat on receiver's menu to "118", it must be some level, not 0, then tweak your 30" dish for max signal.

thanks peano and Smith;

Called my relatives in Florida - they have same dish and verified some strengh on tp's
they have double my signal in 80's on 119 and even higher on 110, 40 0n 118.

Mine on 119 is 35, I tried everything, connecting one cable only to each LNB but not getting higher signal, each time rechecking switch, powering receiver OFF/ON, same with moving and repointing, belive me, I thing I did it so many times that can point 110 or 119 perfectly, could work for dishnet without compass

When i received the dish it was lightly bent inwards in the middle, just a few square inches, hardly visible - could that be a problem?

Also on sadoun they mention torque when assembling the dish, i have not used that wrench.

Also my friend has 36 inch globcast dish with LNB, is it worth trying, is it compatible with 118?

Any ideas? and thanks for ur time

to peano;

yes, mine is original 500+ from dishnet with 2 lnb's one double (glass front) for 118

first off i do not condone the stealing of encrypted signal... but if the poster was (not saying he is) using modified fta equipment to decode an encrypted signal for an american company that he does receive in canada, has there been an actual legal law broken? even if he was willing to pay for it dish will not sell it to him knowing he is in canada. can the fcc or US govt acutally prosecute or penalize a canadian citizen who never actually steps foot in the usa? i do not know if there are any canadian laws prohibiting the decryption. it would make sense that their would be some as they would be losing out on revenue on their own countrys pay tv service.

it would appear that neither dish nor directv can claim that they are victimized by a canadian decrypting their satellite signal. they would never be able to profit off of a canadian consumer. the victims are only the canadian pay tv services, yet they do not even provide some of the channels being decrypted. (yes i know bellvue and dish are linked, but dish stock and directv stock not affected).

my state wont sell medical marijuana. so if i then go to california to get it and smoke it there, has the local retailers here who sell cigarettes lost revenue? or what about if you go to one of the legal countys in nevada that allow prostitution? can the local strip bar in your homestate claim they are being the victims of a theft when they cannot provide the full service of a brothel?

Bent? The surface tolerances are in the millimeter range. Your dish may be defective.

What version FW on your box ? What DNASP number on your card ?
If those versions are old, you'll never see the sat.

For some reason he does not want to answer your question that you have ask several times, yet he claims that he is legal????????? IS HE??????? No insinuations intended, just answer Smith's question.

Smith, why do you need DNSP number, i can not post it on internet as some spy from dish network may cut my service, maybe it is Iceberg.

my fw is 438. I get 110 and 119 signal - weak but working.

As of now no change.

Anyway, i connected 118 directly and did not see any signal.

i want to buy 33'' dish and cb2008a lnb (could buy it for 70 $ - they have some good stores in Toronto) and connect it to the switch - is this setup correct?

To jerryez - I PAY FOR MY SIGNAL!!!!!! This is one of the reasons I need to fix it.

Also, would you know if 33 inch GLOBECAST dish with their lnb would work?

Are you crazy ? :) Look around here - ppl posting Sysinfo screen shots without masking R00/S00 - nobody will need your number, man.

Post it - just THREE numbers after "DNASP" exactly.

Also FW must have a letter, not that your three numbers.

OK, did the shopping;

33 oval aftermarket dish with single lnb $48; will connect to port 2 on DP34 instead of DN circular LNB, other 2 will leave connected to 500+ sat 110 and 119 if this won't work - harakiri;

Someone in other forum said that card might be needed to reset - this receiver 311 does not have a card, i powered off/on, however can not do factory reset or can?

- can not be faulty receiver as 2 sattelites are working,
- switch should be OK too - tested on different ports, it works
- tried connecting without switch - no gain in signal strengh, 110 about 50, 119 - 35 signal srengh on tv, should be double
- called some DN dealers in Buffalo, Detroit - they sell same size dishes for - international channels (500+, 30 inch) for northeast USA which should be the same as Toronto

However, when connected to old dish 500 (smaller one, 20 + inch) with 21 switch got only 110 but with much stronger signal, approx. 75 compare to 50 on 500+;

so where is the dog burried?

Any thoughts???

oh please. I dont work for Dish, Direct, Bell, Shaw, no satellite company :)

thats the current firmware so that is fine

Also, would you know if 33 inch GLOBECAST dish with their lnb would work?

no. Different LNB type. The only one that works is the Dish 118/119 LNB

uh yeah it does. He has the current firmware.

my fw is 438.

He mentions 110 & 119 is there but weak. That is probably the issue as he needs stronger signals to get 118
