I picked up a Toshiba HD-A3 at Wal-mart last month for $249.00. They got them in on 10/04/2007 @ $298.00. Went clearance the same day. I found 1 left on the clearance shelf on 10/05/2007. :) Now I see Sears Black Friday ad has the A3 for $169.00. I'm glad Wally has 90 day returns.... :)

Even though HD-A2 is supported by the v2.5 firmware update, 1080p24 output is only enabled for XA2 and A20. So, for those lucky few who have HDTV sets that are not only capable of accepting 24fps signal, but are also capable of displaying it correctly (at 72 or 120 Hz), you may want to consider getting a more expensive model instead: A20 or A35. For the rest of us, HD-A2 will do just fine!

Not sure, but i think i remember people saying that the hd-a2 came with 2 movies in the box. Am i correct on this?

No movies in the box but best buy and some others have 2 free instore of your pick with the purchase. :)

Edit:
and you get 5 free by mail

The DVD's are worth about $20 to $25 ea, makes the player free...

I paid $195 for my Toshiba HD-DVD played 4 weeks ago.....picture is great on my 40 in. JVC LCD.....!

Called Best Buy. They said they had one left (A2), but it was a return for $85. I said if it works and is in good condition could you hold it for me. They said yes it's in good condition and the Geek Squad checked it out and it works, and yes they would hold it for me. Rush over there after work, and turns out it was the display model. The thing looked like crap. It was chipped up, and looked like it had been touched by more hands that Courtney Love. Then to top it off, dude couldn't find the power cord, remote, and a box to put it in. WTF!!! I said forget it. Went to Circuit City, they had a few at regular price. I asked if they would price match the BB online ad, they say yes. Idiots couln't find it. I asked if I could use thier computor to get to the SatGuys site to pull up the BB ad. They say no. Ok. Screw them. I'll get one at WalMart on my way to work in the early AM. Nope. I failled to see, until now, that the sale doesn't start untill 8 AM. No chance of getting a few minutes from work to get one. Oh well. I will not give up!!!! Sorry, just had to vent.

I just got back from one of the other walmarts in my area (3 local ones). They said each store in the area had 36 A2's for the sale. I picked up one for $99 at CC today, but I might grab a 3rd and 4th tomorrow morning for gifts.

Whoo Hoo! Just got back from wal mart with my newly purchased Hd-Dvd player. But i forgot to get another hdmi cable:(. Going to sams club to pick one up cheaper than i could have got at wal-mart. Then back to wally world to see what hddvds they have

I picked one up at a Walmart this morning. When I was there only one other person bought one and they still had about 12 left.

Must be nice. The store I picked (out of about 4 I could have gone to in my area) only had 10, and I was #11 in line...

NOOOOOOOOOOO!

I got mine at the locally Wal-Mart, there were 5 guys in line for the HD-DVD drive, and about 40 for the laptop - and some of those apparently picked up tickets for the HD-DVD drive as well, because all of the laptops & HD-DVD drives were sold out by 7:30 or so. Not as hectic as the usual Black Friday, not at all.

Total yawn at the one I went to. 5 people in line for 30 players. 30ish laptops and maybe 10 were sold while I was there. Very civil and quiet.

Picked mine up from Crutchfield B&M yesterday. They said that they got a corporate e-mail that told them to do the pricematch if anyone requests it. So, Crutchfield.com may pricematch one for anyone that needs one.

You might be able to get the 5 free dvds with this deal too from what I am hearing! Here is a pdf that you can fill out for the rebate.
